Yup and a fun car. Check for rust if you are in the north.

That wasn't directed at you, I meant that more as a dovetail into the cars and coffee crash video than your post.
I am going out on a limb here, but i really liked driving my brothers chrysler crossfire. fun ride, cheap to buy. I know nothing about the maintenance or problems of them. but they are a blast to drive.
So quick update...
Spent all weekend monkeying around with some typical Craigslist moron trying to see his Fox Body Mustang to no avail. I set several times to see it and he backed out just as i was ready to leave the house each time. Oh well, i guess.
I did manage to find the time to go see a 2nd gen NA MR2 on saturday morning. It was sitting on some coilovers of seemingly mediocre quality and had aftermarket wheels and an exhaust that I wasnt a fan of, but it was very close by and appeared to be super clean. Not so. One quarter panel, the trunk, and engine cover had been repainted, it was missing paint on one rocker panel in front of the rear wheel (like it got bashed on a speed bump) but had not rusted there yet. It also pulled hard to the left and had a shimmy over 55mph. He left his price at 3900. I liked the MR2 in general, but I think ill pass on this one.
Tonight after work I am going to see a SUPER clean looking, 87k mile na Z32 300zx...
keep in mind with a 300zx the general consensus is that while they may be a fun drive they are not fun to work on.
What type of car would you prefer? The MR2 and Miata are on the opposite end of the spectrum from the Fox body. I've had several of all of them. The Fox is the smokey burnout, torquey fun that you can't get with the imports. In a lot of ways, I miss having one. But they're also handling pigs in stock form, have tons of cheap bits everywhere and are fuel hogs. You may also find it hard to get a non-beaten-and-PepBoyz'd-to-death-by-a-19-year-old for sub $5k. Clean ones are starting to go up in price.
The imports are better build quality, much better handling, very reliable but underpowered. The NA Miata and MKI MR2 are sort of like a go-cart on steroids feeling. Loads of fun, they're what I would chose. $5k will get you a really sweet one of either, though clean non-rusty MKIs are hard to find. The MKII MR2 is more of a cruiser, but a fantastic GT car. They're darn near unkillable.
Also, how much do you drive? Maybe since you're a young un' it wouldn't bother you so much. But I don't think I'd want an NA Miata as a DD anymore. In the summer, I drive mine 3 or 4 days a work week and on weekends, but am very happy driving something else when the weather is cold. Same would go for the MKI MR2. Both buzz like crazy on the highway. MKII MR2 would make a much better cruiser. None of your choices will be very good in PA winter, but you know that.
Yea I figure I will deal with next winter when it gets here, but the average PA winter isn't worth planning a car purchase around.
The 300zx was super clean, really in damn near pristine condition, but had mostly been sitting for the past year or more. I also didnt get to drive it, since the sellers friend had a corolla on jackstands blocking the garage door. Asking price is 4500. I think its a great buy and a great car for a collector, but doesnt suit my purposes. The engine bay looks like hell to work on also, so I am gonna pass.
I know theres a big difference between an mr2/miata and a camaro/mustang, but on paper those seem to be the finalists so far. Good aftermarket, generally reliable, available in my budget, and fun in their own ways. I really liked the MR2 I drove, but it will probably come down to the best car available. I have some time at least, inspection on the bimmer doesn't run out until april.
