what's under that hood?
Right now it has a 2.2 litre high compression FE3 stroker with a GT3076 strapped to it, running on Megasquirt.
I don't want that motor, though he's trying to get me to take it. If i get it, i'll be selling that motor immediately. (It's also coming with "everything you'd want off an 89 Probe GT)
I'm HOPING i get it with nothing under the hood, so i can just use the parts off the 89 Probe GT to get it up and running on a stock ecu/electronics F2T. (I have the old manifolds off this truck from when it was last running with an F2T.)
Basically.... it'll be making about the same power as my MX6 does by the time i'm done with it.
We'll see on all that.... first goal is to run the MX6 in the CrapCan class @ OLOA.
Then we'll evaluate if the truck needs to go, or if i want to subject myself to running the 93 Miata.
Either way, the first attempt in the MX6 won't be until 2015.

Well.... 4 F2T-powered projects until mndsm comes and picks up his MX6.
But yes. Plus the deathscort. And the BP turbo powered Miata.
FML.

MegaSquirt? Oh, the hugemanatee!

Heh, it's an old MS1. I'd just as soon not deal with it. He's had issues with getting it to run the way he wants, and without any form of knock control or detection, it's a little sketchy stabbing in the dark in terms of timing on a motor like this.
F2Ts on stock electronics are a known quantity to me.

Knocksense is $60 and the upgrade to MS2 is about $100 along with some tuning software from EFI analytics.
Jus sayin' ;)
Let me know when you're dropping it off.....heck, we could probably have it running and driving within a weekend.

It's a combination of the motor itself and the ECU. I told him when he was building it that i didn't think that motor was a good idea for what he was trying to do.
And it's really not a good idea for what i want to do, so even if i get it with the motor, i'm selling it off.

That's what i'm thinking... should be pretty cake.
EvanB wrote: If you do get that engine and have trouble selling it I could take it off your hands.
The engine isn't 100% trouble free. Has a top end noise that i'm 99.9% sure is the result of being assembled with a mix of mazda and kia lifters, which ARE different.
Or it could just be an exhaust leak. Dead quiet and smooth until 5000rpms, then makes a pretty good rattle.
If i get it, i'm thinking i'll probably dump it for $500 or something.

Including turbo and MS?

No, he wants to keep the turbo and MS for the $2400 99 Miata he just picked up.
Which is fine by me. The turbo is too small for me, and the MS too old.
He was just using a slightly modified BP turbo manifold, so it wouldn't take much to get the motor turbo again.

Focus, Evan. Focus.
Here's a silly question; I'm wondering what kind of fuel economy a built F2T (say 300hp on tap) would return in a B2200 extended cab 2WD truck.

I'm betting i could get it over 30mpg. Especially with truck gearing. I get 40mpg highway out of the MX6 with it being geared too short.

Focus? No, I was going to put it in the Miata.
Buy a Miata 6spd trans, use the blueprints that are out there for the mount plate adapters, bolt in.
Hmmmmm FE3.... too bad you're wanting to keep the squirt and turbo, otherwise I would have prob had to sell a kidney to have you.deliver it to the challenge.

Nah, seller is keeping that stuff to use on his new Miata.
I'm trying to get him to keep the FE3 as well, i don't want it.
If you're halfway serious about wanting the FE3, shoot me a message.
Back to handling...I'm kindof in the opposite camp with regard to spings and bars. I like soft springs- they let's the suspension do what it's supposed to do, i.e. keep the wheels in contact with the road, and big bars, which prevent body roll- body roll that lifts tires and causes all sorts of weird camber changes.
Cut the stock springs if coil, replace to 4x4 springs if torsion or leaf, and put the biggest, juiciest, shiniest anti-sway bars on it that you can find.
Shock tuning will be a bit of work, but you should be able to get it in the ballpark. Higher spring rates will require stiffer shocks, but if you don't go overboard with stiffies you may not need to go more than a bit stiffer than stock in the shock dept. (another benefit of big bars)
Looks like a fun truck!
