When you rip out all the troublesome electronics it's just an 80's engine with no inherent design flaws.

Same thing people found about Triumphs and MG's - they were decently reliable once you junked the Lucas crap.

As I understand it, the fuel lines are prone to leaking, and placed directly above the exhaust manifolds. This causes fire, and as Frankenstein taught us.......FIRE IS BAD!

Sort of like an AC VW. Only it drips on the distributor.

Did they have any of the inherent 80's supercar manufacturer design issues like short interval timing chains, etc?

The go to shop for Southern California's was across the border in Tijuana !

They were able to fix the weird hydraulics on the DS  and other Citroen's

This was decades ago , so probably long gone by now :(

Probably the best thing you can do with one. Trailer it to the autocross site. Do six runs. Trailer it home.

How reliable does it have to be?

Ask if it has more than 50k miles. Few do.

And those that do will have been towed behind a motor home.

Still waiting for someone to do a true "Mazdarati" conversion. Like wankel+biturbo. Make it a triturbo.

I think they are the perfect candidate for a VQ swap

He seems well deserving of a GRM or Classic Motorsport article.

That's what people just don't understand.  A lot of "unreliable" cars are made of some really great parts.  But the details let them down.
Or you can use this instead of the troublesome part etc.

There  are some great cars with poorly sorted electronics.  The dealers charge two arms and a kidney to fix them and it's really not that hard.
Because the dealer has no reason to keep old cars running  he doesn't stock those parts or even want to work on them.
But the engine is great just let down by the ECM  but hey! Everything from that era is bad!

So, how much power can an otherwise stock motor make on e85?

It would be important to know.

Depending on compression/boost 10-20% additional
