That would also make Ferrari's driver situation for next year a lot clearer with Alonso coming on board nearly a 100% certainty, just keep the Kimster on for the last year of his contract before he goes to the WRC full time.
Oh please - Alonso won't go to a team where the other driver is as good as him.
Wow, that is freaky! I hope he gets better, Massa was one of the classy, less-whiny F1 drivers.
As an aside, I worked at Daytona Speedway when Earnhardt died, as security. I saw it happen and heard the radio chatter. Scary.

I didn't think anything of it when i watched qualy yesterday. I figured he was safe and well. I actually thought about the mechanics working to swap that powertrain into a new chassis.
I hope he gets better quickly.
Yeah, I'm with you on that one...I didn't even see the thing until it became clear that Massa had really been hurt, and the various news orgs started posting up slo-mo vids where you can actually see the it bouncing up from the road. At actual speed, I still can't see it very well.

When I first read it, I'm thinking the result of some crash. Nope, a *spring* flying around the track. Yes, it's better that he got it in the helmet, but what are the quantifiable chances of being hit by a stinking *spring* ? Come up with the number, and you sir, will find that he was indeed unlucky.
I think I understand what you're saying now. Yeah, when you look at the accident itself instead of the aftermath, that's a pretty bad stroke of luck.
heres a 3D animation of the Massa-Spring incident...

All the talk about luck...watching that animation shows terrible bad luck. It looks like the end of the spring rotated to the worst possible position to penetrate his helmet/shield.

Just read Schumacher will replace Massa until he can drive again.
It's like Lance racing the TdF again... I wonder if Bernie had anything to do with this... in an effort to make F1 worth watching again...
Schumacher still works for Ferrari as one of their test drivers. Bernie had nothing to do with it, it was just either Shumacher helping his team or his team asking for help or perhaps a little of both.
