Is there anything special or desirable about a 93' MX-3 Special Edition?

I found one locally with under 100k, 5spd, V6 for a reasonable price. I know the 2.5L KL engines are a drop in, but I don't know if I want to be doing an engine swap right now. How is the 1.8L sixxer? Any major rust points since I live in the north east?

Barney just called looking for his car.

Seriously...those are good little cars. Same platform (BG) as the ZX2, and the early Proteges.

Unique color and unique rims along with leather seats/wheel/shift.
Otherwise, just loaded.

Good car. Normal rust spots... quarters, rails, nothing real special. Check the rear shock towers, they rust out sometimes.

I would LOVE to get my hands on that car.

The leather seats in those are RARE and kinda awesome.

The 1.8 is good. It's not crazy fast, but it's FUN, and makes great noises.

In my opinion, the chassis is better than a BG. They're wider and stiffer. They handle INCREDIBLY well even in stock form, and have good brakes. I want one.

If you don't buy it, send me the details?

Buy it!! I absolutely love mine, almost as much fun as a Miata. Those seats are really hard to find. The 1.8 is more than adequate, even as a lapping car on a tight track, not really powerful enough for the big long straightaways, but fun, fun, fun! They corner really well thanks to an interesting adaptable rear suspension. Only major rust spots on the ones I've owned have been just behind the front wheel – if you open the doors you'll notice leaves and moisture collect in the space there.

Lesley, what's a decent one worth in your opinion?

If I ever get the chance to go IT racing those are on my short list.

Is the 1.8L worth boosting or is upgrading to a 2.5L the better option? Are the backseats completely worthless? MPG?

It would probably take a low pressure setup ok... the rods are quite tiny. (Which is also why it's so rev-happy.)

If you're going for anything over 200hp, though, just drop in the 2.5.

The backseats are ok for children. Worthless for adults.

MPG, figure high 20s combined. I got 32mpg out of mine the 750 miles i drove it, but that was all highway.

I took a tortured ride in the back of one of those once. I had to sit sideways behind the passenger and put my feet behind the driver.

So, yes, worthless.

I'd say that's a pretty good price for that car. I paid the same for one with 190,000 km, needing a water pump. I paid $1,000 for my current car, which has 120,000km and is in perfect shape... but looks like it has been painted with a mop. As far as the rear seats go, I'd say they're on par with the FR-S. In fact, the FR-S really put me in mind of my MX. The seats flip down to hold one hell of a lot though, I can fit my bike in there.
