I would like to formally thank GRM for publishing the MS3 front mount intercooler story. Learned gobs about the car I own and it was awesome.

JG - you should submit an article to cracked. You've got a gift for written comedy.

Any more plans for the MS3?

Loved the line that goes, "The underside of the Mazdaspeed3 is made from glass shards and hurting." (paraphrasing from memory).

Suggestion: Cam driven fuel pump upgrade. The MS3's is only adequate for stock levels of power. With the FMIC attached and the wrong tune, the engine will run dangerously lean at high RPMs. Even stock the car seems to run out of steam at 5500rpm. CP-E sells a fully rebuilt and tested upgrade. The CDFP is shared with some DI Audi/VW models, so some Audi/VW vendors sell upgraded fuel pump internals you will need to install yourself. The CP-E CDFP also comes with a bigger spring. The Audi/VW shops don't sell that spring, but Protege Garage does.

I enjoyed the write up as well, made me regret trading mine in a bit.

im going the add the car does run out of steam at 5500 rpms... because the car starts closing the throttle..... cobb ap tune fixes it. and i believe cpe standback does also. absolute must is tuning if modding anything on the disi mazda motors tho.

FYP.

Very common problem with the systems- just run out of fuel capability.

My fuel curve is surprisingly good throughout the rev range—a little thick, even, but I'll put up with some soot on the bumper if it means not holing a piston. Now, that's with the "Stage 1" Cobb tune, which we consistently find to be the best tune regardless of hard parts installed. In stock tune, the mix isn't bad, but it's kind of all over the place. And it's a little thin up high where you'd start to believe the stories about people bolting on some parts and toasting the engine.

And, yeah, I've never owned a car that cuts me up so much. Between the MS3 and five parrots in the house, my hands constantly look like I'm in some sort of adult knife fighting league down at the post-apocalyptic community center.

JG,

Just wait till it comes time to replace the cabin air filter. Have bandages aside.
