Casually looking for/at NB Miatas to purchase as a sometime DD and somewhat competitive auto-x'er.

Found a somewhat local 2000 5mt with leather that's advertised as a Sport model. Three spoke steering wheel, and the data plate on the passenger door shows Suspension: Sport S

Interweb experts are divided over what the Sport S actually means...any help from the forumites?

Thanks,

Russ

IIRC bigger anti roll bars front and rear plus bilstien shocks.

I believe a Sport has "Hard S" suspension.  "Sport S" is the normal suspension.

Also, IIRC the front bar was the same and it was only the rear that was different.  Bilsteins yes, I don't remember if the spring rate was changed.  It was only mixed with leather seats in special editions, and came with 15x6 wheels.

The 99 Sport was prized back in the day as the best power/weight Miata in C Stock.  Dunno what class they're in now or if that's still true.

In reply to codrus (Forum Supporter) :

Yes now I remember the Hard S and Sport are different.  Our 99 has the sport but not the Hard S.  What I said above (minus maybe front bar) is Hard S.

Was/am hoping for a Torsen, but I know that's hit or miss and needs to be confirmed physically ala Keith's method

A Hard S car should have had a torsen from the factory, leather-equipped manuals should have too.  Cloth seats with "Sport S" suspension can go either way.

This one has leather, so I'm hopeful...

Basically, if it has leather and a stick shift, it should have a Torsen.
