A friend of mine found these pieces underneath their '89 VW Golf. They are pretty sure the parts came off the fuel distributor

Photobucket

any idea where they go?

Is it a 16v or 8v? I'm pretty sure the '89 8v wouldn't have a fuel distributor, as it should have digifant II electronic injection. Other than that, I'm clueless, I've never had a CIS fuel distributor apart (in case it's a 16v).

Mmmm. My first thought would be something behind the frequency valve/fuel pressure release valve which manages fuel pressure (and therefore mixture) at the fuel distributor. It's on the side, perpendicular to the flow of air into the FD

edit: missed the part where it was on a digifunk.

dunno...any holes that need plugs under there? That looks a little like the oil pressure spring/cap/circlip on a Saab B engine that's on the external oil pump.

I've had fuel dizzys apart, but on Saabs and I don't remember seeing anything like that on my '85 8v 900. Never messed with a VW before though.

edit: missed the part where it's probably a digifunk car.

So..dumb question. there's a cap, a circlip and a spring...is also any hole that is currently unoccupied in the engine compartment where this would all fit?

If they came off the VW, then it would be the transaxle. It has been a while since I worked on any Golfs.

The pieces are too large to have come off the fuel distributor(16v only)

I don't think they are VW parts.

That silver round piece looks like a La Castelette center cap at first glance. You might want to filp it over or show how thick it is. It also looks like a 8V lifter shim.
