I have say I now have almost no interest in new cars, but I do like the look of the Buick Verano. Chevrolets always seem to be purposely designed to look cheap.

I didn't say the Cobalt was crap. I just said it was better than a Cavalier. My main experience with the Cavalier was renting a base model 2003 with an automatic. 425 miles on it and it had more buzzes and rattles than a bee hive in a baby crib. Absolutely wailing on it, it took foreeeeever to get to freeway speeds, and this was Hawaii where "freeway speed" is about 50mph.
My experience with the Cobalt platform is limited to the Ion Redline, which is a blast and a half to drive, handles great, and sounds great. I don't know what the base models are like but they have to be better than the Cavalier. I'm sorry, but there was nothing to the Cavalier to recommend it over any econobox I've seen. Yes, as a used up throwaway car it might have merit, but not at new car prices in 2003, for sure.

Just the Chevy subcompacts are fail so far. I think the big problem with the speed of the Cobalt was you would hit the loud pedal and it was like the car was asking you "are you sure you want to accelerate and then ok I will move kinda. Of coarse pretty much every modern car I have driven recently, I have hated so take that for what you will. (not that any of them were exciting in any way). Edit: oh and the stock seat suck. But Teggy seats bolt in.
Is everyone forgetting the Cobalt SS? Hell of a car with additional factory performance parts available that didn't void the warranty.
Didn't it set the fwd lap record at the Nürburgring?
edit: Yeah looks like it did in 08: The new '08 Cobalt SS now has 260hp. It has just set the record for a FWD car around the Nuburgring at 8:22.85 !!! Here are some of the numbers....
0-60mph - 5.5 sec
1/4 mile - 14.0 sec @ 102mph
Top Speed - 160mph
BASE PRICE - only $22,995
Gawd listening to people complain about cheap cars being cheap gets old, and it looks like we already got our first comment about "Cheap plastics" on the interior from one of us, a supposedly grassroots guy. Always makes me laugh, every time. As far as the "all cars look alike" comments, guys you are kidding right? Cars today look fantastic and there is a wider variety then ever before. And the comment about government regulations making cars all look the same, I mean come on, technology has allowed all kinds of fun things to be done with headlights for example and cars have never looked better. Heck, who would have thought 15-20 years ago we would be admiring the styling on a Buick? or a Hyundai ?
I drive Cobalts all the time down at work, nothing wrong with them for what they are meant to be, the honda civics are a little weird but dang they feel very comfortable and ....the Suzuki Kizashi ? Saw one the other day for the first time in person, car looks great and from everything I read about it, its a fantastic car.

I mean I wasn't really including that one I was just talking about the base models.

Yeah, actually look at a "street scene" type photo from any decade and tell me the cars don't look alike. Especially pre-war, those were some cookie cutter cars. The only reason they look so different to us now is because there are so few of them around.

Compared to what exactly?
Better than the Aztek, ok, maybe.
But then theres things like this:
And this:

People were admiring Buick stying 20 years ago, that's why some models are classics.
Hyundai, not so much.
