And it's a doozy. He went and picked himself up a '68 (pretend I said '66) Mustang. Everything, including a rebuilt engine and a full interior in very good shape for just $2k. He just has to piece it all back together. Kind of jealous. My first car was a 924 that wanted to blow up most times it moved forwards.
Anyone have any great words of wisdom I can pass on to him regarding this particular car?
paint, assemble, enjoy for a week, sell for $$$, and move on to another larger budget project :)

Yes - That's not a '68 Mustang...
That's a good start. That's what he told me it was. I'm about a thousand miles away. So what year is it then?
Oh wait. It's a '66. My bad. He did tell me that. Darn my memory.
Before he starts any assembly, have him check the front and rear cowls to see if it's worth the trouble.
Tell him to stick his head in the trunk with a flashlight and check for rust between the bottom of the rear window and the front of the trunk opening.
Then pour some water into the front cowl air grill. If it runs onto the ground behind the front wheels, all is well. If it runs onto the front floors, the cowl is rusted out.
If it fails either of these tests, he needs to take some time, investigate the repair process and decide if he wants to move forward.

Some assembly required. For ages 14+.
I have nothing to add except that looks like fun and my first car was a Porsche that liked to get all explody when you drove it as well.

He either has mad skills for a young guy or likes to swim in the deep end of the learning pool or has no clue what he just got into.
No matter what category,or how it turns out, he will be much wiser by the time this car hits the road.
