Yeah I called a dealership near me and they are doing, Dealer "improvements", you know, Suede carpets with matching golfbags, to justify markups.

A few months back Chevy was selling these nationwide with a 20% discount. I test drove one in 2016 & liked it a lot.
None sent to Canada. No loss - pretty similar to the Pontiac G8 GXP which we did get a few of and they were OK but nothing to sell the homestead for. Both models failed to sell very well so the low numbers will help slow depreciation.

Based on exactly the same car, the Holden Commodore. I think the Pontiac G8 was the VE Commodore and the SS is the mid-life update VF Commodore.
I almost picked up the G8, and am considering grabbing one of these. I have a thing for sleeper sedans. This one checks all the boxes. Wonder if the employee discount can be applied.
Thinking about $700 per month for a car payment immediately turns my brain to mush. Especially if gasoline goes back up to $4 a gallon and it costs me another $400 per month to feed this thing. NOPE.
The low-rent interior doesn't bother me, it's a step up from the Fiesta. (a Polaris Razor is also a step up) The mileage is not an issue, I have a really short commute. I just can justify that cost for something with no utility for me: I can't autocross it, I can't take it on family road trips (not enough space) too expensive to hillclimb, don't want to go drag racing...shame because I really liked the one that I sat in.
For a car like this that would primarily be a DD I'd 100% go Auto over manual.
Who do I hand my GRM card into?
In reply to Adrian_Thompson :
Not me I'm getting tired of shifting gears in my mustang. At 17k miles a year with little highway driving I understand the desire to DD an auto.

If the transmission is on par with other manufacturers' offerings (ie. ZF 8 speed), I'd be okay with it as well.
I daily a car with a 4 speed manual. Don't hate it. With the torque of the SS, I imagine I'd need to shift it approximately 3 times on my way to work.
Also, note to GM: sell a civilian version of the police Caprice. Even with an automatic, I WILL BUY ONE.

Why not? Growing up, our family of 4 took plenty of road trips in mid-sized, 4 door saloons.

Agreed. From the perspective of riding in a manual SS, it seemed pretty low effort to drive as manuals go. Big torquey V8s let you get away with a lot more than you can in something short on power.

I thought the interior was pretty nice. Decent materials. Lots of luxury touches like bun coolers. Decidedly nicer than C6 Vette interior. . They look better if you black out the chrome trim and swap for the Holden badges IMO. I really considered one but decided to go F80 M3 instead, more of a change from the last car which was a Z06.
Since buying my '06 MCS, I'm back to DD'ing a manual. Not as bad as I thought it would be. Granted, I still drive the minivan a couple of days each week. It should be better when I get the TDI back on the road. The clutch in that car is so light and easy to modulate, driving in traffic was almost fun. The clutch in the MCS felt a bit sketchy when I bought the car (over 4K miles ago), so I'll probably be replacing it within a year or so.
I can definitely say I will likely have at least one automatic in my fleet from now on. Still... half the fun of an SS to me would it being a big, 4-door sedan with a manual transmission, so I can't imagine buying one any other way.

They're on the used market if you know where to look. Usually under 15k. With a mostly plastic interior, they seem like an ideal dad/dog car to me. Or, if you're patient, you can occasionally find the detective trim cars with nicer interiors (see Pontiac G8).

Agreed. V8/RWD sedan is nice, but there are a handful of options there. Based on MSRP, You can getmore HP per $ than the SS, in a Charger and it has looks to match.
The biggest selling point of the SS for me is the fact that it's the only large, powerful sedan available with a manual, and it's probably the last of its kind. Personally, I don't find them boring looking, and think that they'll age better than most of the cars on the market much like an e39 M5 (which the SS is often compared to). I'd totally have one if I could drop that kind of cash on a selfish purchase.
In reply to STM317 :
Given that I've already stated for a car like this I'd actively seek out two not three pedals, the Charger and Challenger look 1,000 times better (to me)

I saw a couple on Autotrader. Low miles, but that cop interior with the bulky center console. Unless it comes with a full complement of ARs, I'd hold out for the detective's car.
