So I bought this;

Former CTCC car and CASC GT racer (and G90 vintage eligable). Built by a guy I know; he sold it a few years ago to a guy who wanted to maybe rally it, then went to a kid who did a couple of track days with it and let it sit, then I swooped in and got it cheap. Header, lumpy cam, logbook, and a ridiculously expensive 3 way Moton suspension.

Dragged it home on Wednesday. Started looking at it the morning hoping to get it ready for a race next weekend. Mostly OK, needs belts, a window net (lost) and a fire suppression system. Got it up on the stands knowing wit would need brakes. Missed the torn CV boot until I got the wheel off. Oh, and the calipers are swapped from a NX 2000 which I guess was a common upgrade.

So now I'm trying to find parts. Apparently finding axles, particularly left axles for a standard ABS car is challenging. Nobody local had them. Crappy tire says they can order one on Monday, but I'm suspicious. I've got a buddy who owns a performance shop looking as well.

I'm happy with the purchase; $3000 CAD for a car that was very competitive when Vic ran it. I figure I can have it on the track for another $2K. We'll see how it goes.

Thoughts, comments, and Nissan advice appreciated.

This was Vic Simone's old car. It was in Mt Albert.

What series might that run in Ontario? Currently building a E36 for chump-car, wondering what else I might do with it. There seems to be a shortage of events in southern Ontario.

It will be legal for CASC, VARAC, and CHUMP. There's also that house series at Calabogie that I've considered running. And while CS3 failed, there's talk of putting something else together. It's not hard to do 6-8 events within 3 hrs of the GTA if you can afford it.

Get in touch with Brian Downey from my Facebook friends list. He and his father own a restoration and performance shop specializing in Datsuns and Nissans. He'll be able to get you any part made of unobtainium that you may find yourself in need of.

In reply to NGTD: I looked at that one as well but it needed more work to get it going and would not be VARAC eligible for G90.

On price, I contacted the guy when it first went on the market. After hearing the description and what it needed to get ready, I told him it was $3k to me but understood that might not be enough. Three months later he sent me an email and we worked out a deal.

It's a great car but I'm having 'fun' finding the right parts for it. I'll have to build a spares library. On the other hand it now has a fancy fire suppression system installed.

These are good cars up until you have to change the water pump.

Or the oil filter.

If you get rid of the Motons I'm told the hot recipe (due to the extremely low amount of stock shock travel) is to use VW bumpstops and cut them down to create a poor-man's multicellular progressive Koni.

Here in Central Kentucky we have a guy who campaigns a 1996 200SX and has been our local champion for several years running. It's sensitive to having fresh tires but on good Hoosiers it's a mini-monster.

You'll need to log in to post.
