I've been meaning to get some for the bigger jobs I send out. I put a new top end in an RMK600 last week and I should have put something on the head bolts and cylinder bolts, just in case people decide to "fix" things themselves.
This. We used it at work on all engine fasteners and I used it myself on critical suspension bolts on my cars. Its use has been around for decades, but I guess young people need a reminder now and then, hah.

Slightly off topic but...it doesn't sound like it should be used inside an engine? What happens when that stuff flakes off into the oil? So what would be the right stuff to use for internal engine use then ? Nothing? punch marks ? scribe marks?
I def see the point on all stuff external though...esp suspension bolts or other areas of high stress and loading...

When we were doing the oil pump in the BMW, Dave from Bimmerworld was putting it all over inside the motor and I asked the same thing. He said he uses it internally all the time and has never seen any issues. Apparently it's rated for it. Here's some on the rod bolts:
The Permatex Bolt Mark notes in its directions not for use on internal engine components so I would not use that product for that use case.
I feel like anything important inside an engine will let you know pretty quick if it has come loose. I've used a paint pen inside an engine to mark when bolts are torqued when doing things in a sequence and then just cleaned it up with acetone when I am done.
