The guys running the skid steers and payloaders were just shaking their heads and taking pics. Hey it was too nice a day not to drive the Vette.

And, yes that's a Thule bike rack on the rear deck.

It really makes me smile to see you using the vette, instead of treating it like it's a priceless treasure. It's a car, and a damn fine one at that. Enjoy it, use it, love it.

salutes you

Sometimes when I just have one bag of trash, I throw it on the passenger seat of my 911. I get a lot of looks...

I haven't washed it in a couple of years. The paint is pretty bad. Why wouldn't I drive it? I live on a dirt/gravel road. When we first moved out here I was concerned. But, then I saw a photo in Sportscar of a couple rallying their Stingray on a logging road and got over it.

Kudos. In fact, we were discussing using cool cars as daily drivers tonight at dinner.

Sticker says, "Race cars, not dogs." We have rescue greyhounds.

In Bristol Vermont the curbside pickup is via wagon pulled by two very large draft horses.

I see nothing wrong with taking my car to Home Depot, etc.

A few weeks ago I saw an XKE at our local Lowe's. I was tempted to see what came out with the owner, but I had to get going.

can't find those wheels anymore unless you luck out at a swap meet

is that a '76 or '77?

I had a '76 with a '66 396

'75, L48, TH400. VW Jetta cloth Recaros. Rear glass removed. Headers, dual exhaust through dual high flow cats. Edelbrock Carb and intake with K&N filter and filter top. A/C removed. Electric fans conversion. 185Hp at the rear wheels, 249lb-ft torque.

Car came with the wheels. Seen a lot like them but not the actual ones I have. Have separate set of 93 Sawblades with 3 inch spacers for the car as well.

A trailer hitch absolutely MAKES a car.

didn't Top Gear just do a show replacing pick-ups with 2-door cars?

In reply to vwcorvette:

I love your pickup truck. Mine is not nearly as sporty as yours but a couple of years ago my mother gave me her 92 Ford Taurus with 4800 miles on it. I sold my then DD and put a hitch on the Taurus and bought a small single axle trailer. It has hauled everything I've needed to and eliminates the need for an actual pick up.

Those vettes work so well with the rear window removed. I now remember a friend's father, back when I was in grade school.. had a similar one that he would pull the rear glass out of it for the summer.

Ever driven it in the rain with it out... anything get it?

Starksboro, eh? I grew up in Lincoln and went to Mt Abe.

The cross country 'course' for the high school was actually around the Bristol dump.

What? Doubtful, unless you put the TH400 behind it, but then that begs the question of WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?

nope. that's what they had until '76 I think. They then downsized it to a TH350 which while not as stout, doesn't take as much HP to turn. Why? I do not know. TH350 also has a more favorable first gear ratio.

Mad...I have driven it in the rain. No problem until I have to stop. TTops leak however so I avoid the rain.

Per... If you ever come back to visit give a shout. I'm teaching DE at South Burlington (GO Rebels!) and work at Yipes! Auto Accessories in Williston from time to time. Used to be president of the Sports Car Club of VT(98,99). www.sccv.org

Synth...you can find them online though I don't recall the name of the organization. Your local greyhound rescue may have them too.

As a401cj points out--standard issue automatic for my car. I do have 4L60e on a pallet waiting for me to get around to rebuilding the LT1 I have to put in it.

Streetwise...Worked for a guy who called them the best looking Chevy trucks ever built. Two seats, big v8, ladder frame...truck!

That kind of vette is perfect for that kind of use.

If i had one like that i'd have roughly the same compunctions (or lack thereof, fittingly) about it that you do. :)

I took a Subaru XT to the lumber yard with the seat folded down. Should have seen the expression on the guy's face as the 8 foot piece of trim just kept going and going into the trunk (and the passenger side of the car).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that Vette has a full frame, a V8 and a strong transmission. Seems like a better tow option than half the unibody SUV's out there nowadays!
