The wife's Mazda5 needs tires. My concerns are they need to be black, round, and a good value for the money. If I was going to be really picky I'd ask for good wet traction and quiet tread. We've been running Federals on the LeMons cars and have been pleased with them, but I don't know if that translates to being happy with them on the family car. Size is 205/50/17.
I like the highest rated USED tires I can fit I to my budget.
Craigslist has large amounts of sets of four. Just search for your size.

I'd be good with that, but Craigslist is coming up dry so far, and new prices look to be around $70 a piece.

I found some Hankook Ventus V2 Concepts online for $70 even per tire. I'm liking that 500 treadwear rating.
I don't like cheap tires. On my dd's it always seems to be cheap tires that pick up nails, develop a sidewall bulge, dry rot out with plenty of tread left.

Discount has Cooper RS3-As on sale for like 72 each after rebates:

I bought Kuhmo Platinums for my wife's Mazda5 earlier this summer through www.tirebuyer.com. They were not the cheapest but I thought they represented the best value.
I had their recommended installer install them. I liked the buying experience so well that I bought 2 tires for another vehicle from them just last month.
The Kuhmo Platinums have been great. Far better than what was on there from the factory which I think were Toyos.

Oh and see here i thought that was only a top-dollar Michelin issue.

I recently picked up a set of Fuzion Touring tires for the TDi (205/55-16). ~$250 a set from TireRack. They're round. Hold air. Pretty smooth and quiet. Wet & dry grip is good enough for DD duty.
I like the Cooper CS4. a bit more money, but a great tire.
They are running some rebates right now too.

I've found that I can normally pick up a set of factory take off wheels/tires from a near-new car for about the same price as new tires if I look around on CL.

Even the Bridgestone's on the wife's 2010 Mazda 3. Even with 55k miles on them, there is plenty of tread left, but they are dry rotting where the tread meets the sidewall.
Thusly I have told the wife she needs to buy a new set of tires for her car, preferably before winter.

I'm leaning toward these. I don't know that it's any better of a tire than the Hankooks I was also looking at, but it's a more expensive tire marked down to the same money. That makes the cheapskate in me happy.

I really like these tires on the street. I have about 45k miles on my set, we just put a set on my wifes focus, im about to get myself another set in another several thousand miles (before winter)
they are nice in the dry, nice in the wet, and seem do ok in snow (the 1 day a year I actually have to drive in it here in va) and have worn nicely through their life. Even with this many miles on them they are still good in the rain.

I hit the price match button and gave discount a link to the same tire for much less. The problem with place B was the $60 freight bill. The Discount guy called me after about 20 minutes and knocked the tires down by a few bucks. I had to pay tax, but not shipping. After the rebate I'll have four of the Hankooks at my door for just shy of $300.
that's a really common size these days, I bet you can find a good set of yokis/michinlins/whateveryourwant at a JY or CL

this thread got me online checking tire prices again. for the tire size I was looking at, the hankooks had a $75 rebate. not bad. a set of generals had the $75 rebate plus another $70 rebate good through this weekend. $207 for a set of 4 new tires is really hard to pass up.
