Any Hyundai heads out there?
My daughter's 2004 Hyundai Accent, 1.6 w/ automatic transmission, 97K miles.
Stuck in Low, won't upshift.
The problem is intermittent, last time was 6 weeks ago, it magically went away.
Came back yesterday, was OK this morning, now it's back again.
I checked the troubleshooting guides in the manuals on Hyundai Web, but didn't see that symptom.
I realize it may be beyond DIY to fix, but I'd like to know what I'm dealing with before I go to the Stealer.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Check the shifter cable & linkage. If that isn't the problem then it's probably inside. 
Might be as simple as a flush and filter but if you have my luck, it's more involved than that.

The shifter and linkage appear OK, not loose. When I select any of the 'gears' (P, R, N, D, L, etc.) , the detent is positive, and the proper function is performed immediately without any undue clunks, thunks, or hesitation.
I did some nosing around on the Hyundai website, looked at all the Manuals and TSB's for Accents.
Turns out, for a base model econobox, that the A/T is rather sophisticated, it's all software driven with Adaptive Learning, etc.
Many service issues can be traced to faulty sensors, and/or signal grounding. I got some advice that the grounds should all be checked and cleaned, and then to reset the Adaptive Learning.
On the '04 Accent, disconnecting the battery erases the stored settings, and forces a new Adaptive Learning cycle.
So what do I discover, but a loose/corroded Negative terminal on the battery, it came loose when I touched it. I cleaned it all up, reattached, and now the car drives fine.
Of course, with an intermittent problem, you can't know if that solved it, or it was just gonna work anyway.
