A reborn Toyota Celica is being debated as part of a new era of electric sports cars from the Japanese manufacturer that will also include the return of the MR2.
Pretty cool.

I'm all for a lightweight electric MR2, but I feel like it won't be lightweight. And that was the charm of my MR2's.
The problem I see is in this statement from the article linked by preach.
"but the goal is how we can provide that fun-to-drive image”.
The goal should be to provide that fun to drive automobile...
If we get another MR2 it will be electric. I do have faith though that Toyota would not turn the MR2 into a huge electric SUV. The GR stuff has all been great and Toyota consistently turns out enthusiast vehicles (just not always sports car ones) through either Lexus or Toyota. I suspect the MR2 will be as close as you can get to a mass produced electric fun car if it can get green lit.

Caterham thinks they can do a lightweight electric sports car, if they believe its possible no reason to think that Toyota couldn't build a mass produced version.
