Holy Crap! I want! Let me just check to see if I have an extra quarter million laying around.
Nope.
I don't think I could find that much loose change in my couch cushions either.

That's the number I had in my head after scrolling through. That provenance and the insane build quality (a GT40 gearbox and assorted period Indy components?! ) plus that megadollar resto easily put it in that category.
I mean, a Chip Foose car commands that kind of money and this is much more interesting (IMHO).
Once you scroll past the "blah, blah, blah (damn, that guy could use an editor) and get to the suspension stuff, it's really impressive.
Wow!!! One of the few high dollar cars that I've seen that I would actually...well if I could....anyway.......
When you think you could buy 10 panteras for what that car is for sale for, eh, even if I had an extra $250k Id pass.
Consider that guys are paying 6 figures for stock muscle cars. You have exponentially more craftsmanship in this car, and the cachet of knowing that it belonged to one of the most beloved Americans of the last 50 years. For a rich guy, this one's a no-brainer.
Interesting.
About 20 years ago, I was at an SCCA regional and Newman showed up to race. He drove up in a semi beat-up VW convertible, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't this one. I think it was bone stock. I guess he liked these old VW converts.
how the hell does that mill breath under that weird cover thing? And I dont really care for the hood, nor the finned drums. Aside from that...
HOLY FREAKIN SCHNEIKIES!!!!!!
This ol' Dubber sez that's the biggest dose of "Strength Through Joy" I've ever seen. Paul really was just one of us with more money, wasn't he!
I am addicted to his lemonade, but I'd shoot myself in the face before I spent 1/4 million dollars on ANY VW. haha
For an overall great tribute to Newman click -here-.
At about 3 minutes, Dave starts talking about Newman's car stuff including his V8 Volvo wagon. I've seen it and it's pretty cool. (he drove when he took his "last laps" around Lime Rock)

Which is why we get it $500.00 at a time. It never feels like a quarter mill until it's too late.

Makes me miss him even more.

Wow, what a great clip. Funny, touching--wonderful. Paul Newman was simply the berkeleying MAN.
I sure would have loved to see that Volvo wagon. I liked Dave talking cars as a car guy--only dumbing it down a smidge for his audience.
Going back to the VW--what is more interesting--a numbers-matching Hemi Mopar for $250k or a Newman-owned, brilliantly-engineered one-of-a-kind Bug with a super-exotic setup???
I'll take the Bug.
