I have run Nitto NT01 many times and they are a respectable tire. I have heard many times (on line) that they are good to the cords. So I guess the big question is, are they, compared to everything else?

Thanks

I can't answer directly because I've never felt motivated enough to run a set of NT01's that far...they are just so many better tires in every way now to choose from.

That said, these sorts of answers rely heavily on how a tire is treated over its lifetime.  Heat cycling out a tire has a lot to do with how heavy the cycles are and how the tires are stored between uses.  And ... how much time passes between uses.

An application with high vehicle weight to tire width ratio used on constant high cornering load tracks will cycle deeply each session.  Store them outside and temps will work the rubber, too.  Use them only once every two months and that fuse will keep burning in between.

I personally get tremendous life out of all tires...far beyond what most people do.  But I'm typically using wide rubber on a light car, with short on-track sessions, done frequently, and everything stored in climate controlled conditions.  Pretty much best case.  For example, I have a set CRS V2's now at 1/32 which are as fast as ever...though they take a LOT more work to turn on the compound and are quite edgy at the limit.  A052's at that depth are simply magic.  Quick and consistent.

I used to run them on my low power Miata for w2w, they certainly fall off some near the end. How much specifically depends on the track IMO. Maybe a second on the average road course. Not nearly as much as Hoosiers or some of the other really fast tires though. Always ran them to the cords without any real drama.

Andy's right about storage. I left some RR's in the garage over the summer here in the southwest and they were just terrible in the fall, was sliding all over the track even though they had 3/4 of the tread left. Tires get put in bags and stored inside now over the summer. The set of RS4s I left right next to those RRs had minimal change though. I think heat cycling and storage issues are on a scale of sorts and matter way more the faster the compound is, but I don't have a ton of real world experience to back up that claim.

They fall off for sure, on my local track, High Plains Raceway, they drop off 2 seconds a lap.
