I realized in the last month or so my fleet of cars really fit me well.
The Datsun 1200 is so fun for me. We keep doing things to improve it and I still love racing it even after 35 seasons.
The Foxbody Mustang is such a fun throw back and it has infinite potential. The bonus is I can drive it on the street and go to cars and coffee type events with it.
The Outback continues to be the Swiss Army Knife of cars.
I may have reached my motto "I O sono contento, sempre"
I think I may need to breathe into a brown paper bag. LOL

Worry about having spares to keep them running in perpetuity?
In reply to Tom1200 :
That was me in Tacoma with my Toyota 4x4 (work truck), Toyota 4-Runner (back seat for family), and Alfa GTV6 (endless project, and fun car).
It's me again now that I'm back in Hungary:
80's 4-Runner (fun throw back, and swiss army knife)
Mazda RX-8 (fun car with track potential. Has modern comforts)
1973 Charger (endless project)
I've basically decided that the only way I'm going car shopping again is if one of the Hungarlings wants to take one of my drivers when they're old enough, and I'll replace it with something that can tow the Charger to the track.

I think I may be closing in on this mythical Nirvana...
There are still things to do with the individual vehicles, but I think the composition of the fleet may be nearing the perfect mix for us.
Its only a matter of time before the Subaru lets you down, then you will no longer be happy. Problem solved :)

You should probably break one in such a fashion that makes you irrationally angry at it. You'll sell it, try and search for some mythical unicorn of a replacement that does not exist, buy another of the one you just sold, find it to be inferior to the one you sold, and the process will begin again.
I've stuck with my fleet now for longer than any group of cars has lasted in my ownership.
Dodge Caravan: Tow boat and utility trailer, haul family for road trips
Chevy Volt: Take kids to school, run errands
MR2 Spyder: Fun commuter, any trip w/o kids
1970 F250: Beautiful garage ornament, home depot lumber hauler
I see cars I would love to own but don't want more than four and can't bring myself to part with any of these.
I'm pretty happy with my current fleet except it's still too big.
'09 Hummer H3T, daily/fun off-roader.
'14 Touareg TDI, daily, tow beast.
'62 Falcon, Project/old car.
'26 REO T6, fun conversation piece.
'14 Mustang V6 Premium, spirited driving vehicle.
My wife is probably going to sell her Miata and take over the Mustang. I almost never drive the Mustang and she almost never drives the Miata.
I'll probably end up selling the REO at some point. It's a neat car but not something I'm going to drive much. The Falcon is old enough without having rod activated brakes and non-synchro transmission.
i am in a very similar circumstance but from a different perspective. I have leased my last few daily drivers and my lease is coming due very soon but i don't love anything else out there more than my current lease. On one hand i could just keep the car, but on the other hand, leasing gives me a wife approved excuse to get a new car every 3 years and since I only use the daily about 5k miles a year i could potentially be stuck with it for a really long time before it becomes a problem.
The next step: enjoying what you have.
Went to breakfast with a friend this weekend. The perfect opportunity to drive the M3, right?
I was just thinking the same thing. I've had all my cars for over a year, which is something new for me. I've also had a work truck the past 4 years which means I don't really have to have a DD anymore.
1976 911 - owned 23 years. Fun drive, date night car, beautiful to look at.
2006 Tundra - owned for 4 years. Workhorse, hauler, hunting fishing, camping, family rig.
1950 Willys Jeep - owned just over a year. Around town ride, tinker on mobile, light off roader.
I like them all for their own purpose and personality. And I don't count my wife's car since it's not mine, is new and still under warranty so I don't work on it. Although i think it has too many electronics and gadgets.

It's at 150K even if the motor goes kablamo I shall fix it. It's good at what I need it for.

In reply to David S. Wallens :
This is where I am at. I really love flogging the snot out of the poor little Datsun and the Mustang makes me feel like I snuck my parents car out at 2 AM.
In reply to Tom1200 :
Of course, my friend is pushing me to buy something.
“I’m out of space.”
“Keep it at my place.”
“Ugh.”
Real hotrodders/car guys are malcontents. Don't kid yourself. It's 4x4 time.
I suggest vintage Land Rover.
In theory I'm content with my fleet, but I've also come to the realization it's more than I can manage, so I need to purge a little and reshuffle a bit.
I'm pretty much there. I really can't think of a different car I want in my garage than what I have.
I have my JDM track car in my little Mirage hatchback. I have my back road bomber, occasional track car and something to take more than 2 with in the Evo 9 MR. I have my winter pig/DD in the 19 VW sportwagen 4Motion. Just did 800 miles in it over the weekend. Then I have the fun in the sun car with the 05 mazdaspeed miata.
There is really only one thing I can think of and that would be an old truck. But that would not be a need. Just a want if the right one showed up.

My wife and I love to go to ghost towns and other out of the ways spots but she doesn't like hard core off roading.........the Outback fits this need perfectly.

Stay strong my friend.
I loved competing in the F500 but have to admit I am having more "fun" with the Foxbody Mustang.
Your 911 and the BMW would would be tough acts to follow.
In reply to Tom1200 :
Yeah, I agree, hence when he just shared a tempting BaT with me, I replied that I’m looking forward to my next camera purchase. :)

This is how the Mustang ended up in the garage.
