Okay. I'm indecisive. I need to put a motor in my car sometime this summer. I had a 1uzfe in it but I took it out and sold it.
-Like to pay under $2500 for motor and transmission.
-No LS's or Ford 5.0's. I'm different haha.
-Has to have a manual transmission.
-I only want 300ish hp with potential to do more.
-I really dont want to re-engineer the whole damn floor and firewall so T56 aint gonna happen.
I was thinking an rb25/rb20, 1jzgte, 4g63, S52, m104+turbo, 3rz+turbo...give me some ideas. As you can see I like inline6's and turbos. A nice v8 would be sweet but everyone does that. Any rwd v6 options out there?
Car in question:
I like the idea of the 4g63t into those. Seems like the perfect match of Mitsu parts.
I like the styling of the Conquest. I will suggest a Honda J32 or J35 V6 in front of a Miata 5-speed.
I have a few problems with doing a 4g63.
-
I've built a few already so I've grown bored of them.
-
No natural rwd transmission option.
-
It's pretty common swap in these chassis.
But, #1 is also a good reason why it's still an option. I know them well.
Australian-market Starions had the 4G63T stock. I don't know what specific parts are required to do the swap, like if you'd need a different transmission.
I still think the Ford 3.7L Cyclone V-6 (Mustang/F-150) with a stronger Tremec transmisson instead of the MT82 would make a nice swap into an import. 305hp stock, VVT, and it can handle boost since it's basically a deturboed and stroked EcoBoost.
GN turbo 3.8 with a WC T5 and happy thoughts it doesn't grenade for full-on 80s goodness.
It would be neat to keep it Chrysler, and swap in a modern Hemi, but I figure sourcing a manual trans would be hard. A Nissan V8 out of a Titan would be a lot of fun in that car, but even harder to find a manual and engine management would be tough. How about a twin turbo 3.0 out of a 3000GT or Stealth?
What about a Theta turbo
from a Genesis coupe?
RWD, 210hp for earlier ones, 275 for later ones. Mitsubishi joint venture. A wrecked Genesis from Copart could get you all the pieces/electronics you need.
Isuzu 3.5 v6. Stupid light, good power, gm 60 degree pattern.
Orrrr.... Let's get stupid edition: F2t. Early b2600 mazda trucks used non-turbo starion motor, attached to Mazda r-series gearbox a la turbo rx7.
People have used the rx7 transmissions behind 4g63. Basically you'd just need to find the right combo. Wouldnt be surprised if a b2600i bellhousing would bolt to you conquest trans, then you bolt to f2t. F2t laughs at 300hp.
Vq from a 350/370? Could be fun
2.4 Turbo out of a GT Cruiser, Dakota bellhousing, 5spd Supra trans. We've seen the RWD shadow. It can be done.
Gen II or III Supercharged 3800 and metric bolt pattern GM T5.
Great ideas. That vq motor is pretty damn wide.
I like the 6g72 I've been researching rwd trans options. Bill Hincher doesnt seem keen on making me an adapter :(
What's up with the Isuzu motor?
And what's f2t?
Yall have way more ideas than I've ever ever thought of.
Nissan VQ is my vote. Swanky's idea second.
How hard is it to get engine management options for a modern Pentastar V6?
Those are pretty throaty engines, there's a lot of availability (which probably means a body of hop-up parts as well as wrecks), it comes in RWD cars, and you're not going to find another guy at a car meet with the same swap. It also maintains the Starion's general oddball quirkiness without dipping too heavily into the JDM-über-alles scene.
You could also, uh, jam in a GMC 4.3 V6. Or a Buick 3800 SII.
5 or 6 cylinder from GM Atlas line.
Wiki Atlas
Rotary?
Just wanted to be the first.
Been doing a lot of interneting this past hour. That Isuzu engine looks line a nice swap candidate.

There's already been one with a Renesis. Seriously strange thread.

F2T is a 2.2 SOHC 12v turbo motor from an 88-92 Turbo MX6/626/Probe. 145whp/190wtq in stock form. Takes all the boost ever and just laughs at you, spools damn near anything, dirt simple, and really robust.
It's like the 2.6 that was in your StartQuest, but... better.
And would be a funny swap.

I want one of those Isuzu V6s in an E7 Corolla. I think that would be rowdy as hell.
Might be rough in budget, but a 4.0 V6/6spd combo from a Tacoma/FJ Cruiser would be pretty damn fast in a StarQuest.
