Been there done that. I'll pass on $250 reman water pumps and $350 reman alternators. The Toyota V8 is an awesome thing, I just have no desire to ever take one apart again. Not to mention the way my last one died on me. Rolling down the street, coasting and it locked itself up. Still never figured out how it happened, but it damn sure wouldn't turn with a breaker bar and a 6' piece of pipe.

I could get totally serious about one of those, but alas I don't believe that would be acceptable with my parents as a "we'll ride with you" car, or how much the friend of mine would enjoy the ride. Besides, where the heck do you put the wheel chair in one of those?

cmcgregor wrote: Not necessarily related to the specific point of this thread, but how much can you tow with a p71?

Don't know, but my dad's 86 LTD was used to pull a 16' Cobia Deep V with a 125 hanging off the back in the 80's. Would LOVE to find another one of those, but they command a premium now if you can find one in usable condition. That thing was like a La-Z-Boy sofa with a MASSIVE hood. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to put a 16/17' jon boat behind it and go fishing. That's another plus for the Panther column, it will actually pull something with that big stick axle out back.

I drive a P71 daily (and I'm in and out of the car most of the day). The twisty 2 lane blacktops are where this car and I really click. 55 mph speed limits...ha!

It's not a performance car. But for a rolling office it is acceptably entertaining.

The kids quite enjoyed the back seat on a cross country trip we took in it. Since then we call it "The Road Sofa."
