I've had a chance to meet Mr. Egan a few times, and like others have said, he's just as nice and approachable as you'd hope he would be.
The first time I met him I didn't want to be a bother, and just said hello---- he made a point to ask what I was interested in, and we ended up talking about cars and bikes for 20 min or so. I was blown away at how nice he was.
I usually take comments about famous people with a grain of salt---as you don't know the circumstances behind the story unless you were there. However, when everyone that person has encountered says the same thing, the truth starts to come out.
I've never heard a negative word uttered about Peter Egan as a person, or how he's treated others. He's a true class act, and possibly the most respected automotive journalist alive.
Don't think for a minute that I haven't already called and talked to Peter. I would love to have him working with us in his retirement years.

I met he and his wife, Barbera, at the Lotus meet some years ago in Colorado. As others have said, Peter was exactly how you'd expect him to be, based upon his articles, a genuinely nice guy. I got a chance to speak to his wife as well, about how they go round the country doing what they do, and she mentioned that while being parents is great, not having kids allows for all sorts of adventures as well (they have none). Regarding his health, it may be his back, as he mentioned several times when dropping into Lotus Sevens that it was bugging him.
What blew me away was finding myself at a table in a bar with him, his wife, and Alain DeCadenet of all people -priceless.
I met him at Road America two years ago at the BRIC...he had his big old Ford van and his FC car down on the outside of T5; I recognized him and simply introduced myself as a fan of his work... He was very gracious and even took a minute to talk to my sons who were 9 and 5 at the time.

It's a shame to see him go, he's one of the main reasons I resubscribed to R&T.
He is the only reason I kept my subscription the last several years that I did (and the super cheap subscription rate). I finally let it go. You used to be able to get Side Glances on the interwebs, but it disappeared.
