There's been one driving around my town. Car and Driver made a big deal about its funny looks, but I have a completely different take on it. I think it looks good on the outside and very good on the inside. Much more sensual than the Tesla and seemingly more spacious than the 3. Prices seem reasonable. Performance and range are solid, so how come they aren't getting more press?

Good questions. Kinda hoping they haven't used up their tax credits before we move unless the Ioniq 5 is awesomer per dollar.

I have nothing to say other than I want one, but I only have room for one car, so I'm living a Miata-only life at the moment.

I was excited to see that they added a single motor option for this year; sounds like a weird thing to say but I'm not buying a car like this to hit the track, so I really only want 2WD and the longest range possible.

Saw one of these on the street and looks as good in flesh as does on paper.

I like them alot, but the extra range and performance of the Model 3  is hard to beat.  Add in the bonus of the SuperCharger network and it is hard to beat the Tesla.

I think they look much better than the Model 3 and supposedly with the Ohlins they handle much better than anything that weight should.

My girlfriend didn't like the looks of it at all, though.

It has less real world range than the cheapest Model 3, which costs $20k less

More options can't hurt, and they seem to be selling fairly well in overseas markets, but I'm guessing the price and range will be headwinds in the US.

Like the look of that. How is the interior fit and finish?

I haven't been in one, but the reviews all say really good.

The Polestar starts at $50K and is eligible for tax credits which the Tesla is not. Where does that "20K less" figure come from?

Just did a very quick googling for the price of each one.

Searched "Polestar 2 price" and it says "starting at 59,900".

Did the same thing for "Model 3 standard range plus" and it says "starting at $39,900".

It's possible that some of that info is inaccurate, but that's where the claim came from.

Polestar just dropped their prices significantly. Now they start at $48,000. But that's real fresh news, so it's understandable that most Google links are behind. Throw in the credits and they're comparable.

It's too bad the safety suite and any color other than black costs thousands of dollars extra.

I can definitely see myself cross-shopping these used against the Tesla and Ioniq5 in a few years if they sell many. Love the Volvo interiors.

Good friend of mine has one on order—excited to see a polestar in the flesh! He's traditionally a Volvo guy but in a quest to go electric he recently leased a Niro EV. Unfortunately it had a computer failure the first week and was DOA, no loaner, no repair date set, and they tried to charge him for the tow back to the dealer. Not a happy camper. A month and a half later—now they're buying it back. Ordered the polestar same day. Guess he's getting the 40-odd something thousand dollar one, apparently still pretty quick?

He's talking about maybe doing track days since he'll have a "fast car." I'm all for upping one's driving skills, but a 5000lb electric sedan is far from a sports car, or the right vehicle to learn in.

Anywho, when it shows up, I'll add to this thread if anyone cares. I know I'm excited.

I looked at some for sale photos and the interior may be of high quality materials but it is just not right.  It looks like they took a Samsung tablet that has 3/4" bezzles and just said good enough.  The center console is just weird.  Why the high sides?  This looks like a car that was designed in the 90s as an exercise of what the future would be.  I am getting cheap Chrysler vibes and that is not in a good way.

EDIT:  It looks like they ran out of material for the seats and used faded denim from an old set of blue jeans to finish the trim at the seats and the bolsters.  Just not my style at all. .

I think they'll do well.  They are comparable to the non-tax credit vehicles in cost but performance and efficiency is still a touch behind.  Their braintrust in China is the most impressive EV maker not run by Elon.

Good catch. It's not a dedicated EV platform. It's based on a Volvo ICE model. One of the things that they did to hide the batteries is to keep the transmission tunnel and place batteries in it.

In reply to tremm :

Polestar is Volvo-owned but they are made in China.

Personally, Elon Musk's antics, the sub-par build quality of Teslas, and the desire to not be driving the same EV as everyone else moves the needle strongly towards Polestar for me.

Tagged along for the fly and drive... these just got off the boat yesterday I believe. VERY cool in person... not as SUV as it might seem in person and visually about the size of an E class. I think the white or gray are the best colors on these, but I'm not buying this, so blue it is.

Interior has a lot of uncommon materials, most of it is apparently recycled. The door plastic has this weird almost forged carbon fiber look to it. At 6'4", I don't think anyone with the majority of their limbs is sitting behind me. As a google home fan, the fact that this thing is basically a moving one delights me. 0-60 is as bananas as one would expect.

Once Jordan's done paying for this Chinese-Swedish abomination we're going to test the range on our way from Detroit back to Cincinnati.

I'll try to repost it from the RegularCars facebook page, but someone in Sweden had theirs wrapped in a Sunflower golden yellow and it seems to be one of the most beautiful cars I've seen.

They're really not an SUV; more like a cross or an evolution between a hatchback and a wagon.

In reply to pointofdeparture :

To add onto what Tremm stated, they're still made in Sweden and only now opened another plant in China. The Geely holding company allegedly has done little other than act as the wallet for Volvo to go upmarket like they have- I think most of the Swedish management is still in place from the sale. Not to get into a big discussion on Geopolitics, but the "Chinas Reckoning" videos from Polymatter on youtube have shown me there's far less to fear from them now.

For those worried about the Chinese thing, our 2017 S60 was made in China and the fit and finish are perfectly fine.

To the China concerns, Geely and it's brands are run well and have fantastic engineering teams.  Their battery tech and overall build quality are quite good, the beat in China for sure and on par with the big guys.  I have worked with them since they started out and they have become pretty impressive.

Volvo is indeed running really independently and offering them access to the Nafta and EMEA markets that otherwise they'd have no access to.

Every article that I can find says that the Polestar 2 is made in a Geely plant in Luqiao, China.

Greetings from San Antonio, Texas!

I have just rejoined GMS after about 13 or so years, so I feel like a newbie all over again.

Can't remember how to navigate this site, but hope to re learn.

I had a garage with most of my cars, at that time, but I am sure they have been eliminated.  I still own three Ford Fiestas, one a 1980 in immaculate condition, which is my daily driver, a 1978 Fiesta, which is awaiting restoration, and a 1979 Fiesta SCCA approved race car, which I found on this site in 2008.  I also own two Vauxhall Victors, one, a 1957 Victor Saloon with an interesting history, as it was used as a prop for the movie industry, and was in quite a few films, amongst them, in Murder She Wrote.  I also own a 1958 Vauxhall Victor Estate, of which is one of about 20 or thirty left in excellent condition.  I hope to find some folks here with similar vehicles.

I will post some pictures of my cars as soon as I can.

In reply to Duke :

I think the fear is the obvious geopolitical connotation- I mean, if I have the choice I won't buy something made by an Uhgur slave. It's also done from a fear and thought of them "overtaking" America in the near future, which 1) Thankfully from those videos I mentioned, won't happen for a long list of reasons and 2)Those people never really did much of anything to stop them anyway, so...

In reply to STM317 :

I stand corrected. Thanks!

In reply to oldrush_42 :

Welcome!
