Alright, you can all start laughing now.

Here's the new track/autocross chariot of choice:

And because it's one of these...

... it's still got one of these:

No Ls Juan here, either:

Compression test from the dealer came back rather good given the mileage (122k). All chambers came back at 7.6 or above (unnormalized). Quick mental arithmetic suggests that they're all above 7.5-ish normalized.

It needs a good service end-to-end, brakes need to be done (fronts are pretty much shot, fluid is old etc etc), the usual ignition service (coils/wires/plugs) and given the temperatures out here I'm seriously thinking about a upgraded radiator and the deeper sump Greddy oil pan. Oh, and a second set of wheels for the track tires - after all, one of the reasons for buying one of these was so I could carry a set of spare tires to the track without having to tow it.

But first, I need a Mazdaspeed membership. Just in case I need some parts, like.

TRIANGLES, TRIANGLES, TRIANGLES!!!

But seriously, it looks nice. Good luck with it.

In reply to dean1484:

Thanks. By now it seems to get harder to find decent 1st gen ones. I was looking at a couple low mileage ones (less than 50k) and they were nice, but they were all 2004 ones. This one is a 2006, which at least based on Internet lore, should be a better car than the earlier ones. Plus this one has had a long-term owner which again is unusual.

And yes, they went a little nuts on the dorito motif.

What's a "Shinka?"

Sweet! Yes the shinka was an 06 and you are on the right path, finding a COBB tuner will help quite a bit as well as you can turn the fans on earlier as well as any sort of tuning, welcome to the torque less club, its really not bad so long as you rev the balls off of it.

Special edition, leather and interior color changes is about the summary.

It's a special edition - the light tan interior is specific to the Shinka, plus it's got a foam-filled front crossmember and Bilsteins. It's a little tighter overall compared to the non-Shinkas I drove, but not like an R3.

I was thinking about sending the ECU over to Racing Beat for their tune that also lowers the temperature at which the fans engage.

Re torqueless, I've owned one of each generation RX-7 so it's not new to me . Mind you, all of those including the 1st gen were turbos.

Welcome to the club! I have fun hunting Caymans with mine. And "enjoy" being slowed down by the the rs4s at the local track days who refuse to point a Japanese car by..

I got your torque fix right here.

I let one of my friends drive my car. I had him nail it at something low like 2500rpm. He said it felt as strong/stronger than his 10th Anniversary. Later I found out the carb linkage had bent and it was only getting 2/3rd throttle.

First time I drove an RX-8 after years of driving my bridge ported cars exclusively, I was extremely, extremely disappointed...

Dammit.... I had convinced myself that there was no such thing as a clean and well maintained Series 1.
