how hard is it to modify the harness and program the ecu of an RB25DET for stand alone operation in a non nissan? these keep jumping out at me. i'm almost tempted to swap one into a chevy since i've got a chevy engine in my datsun.

There isn't much to the harness and a bagillion write-ups on them. What can go wrong? Besides leaving it in a barn for five years...

I guess as long as you kept the engine and trans and ECU and all the sensors together, its really nothing more than keeping the powertrain all connected and then giving power and ground to the system.

Things that will be tricky are things that don't necessarily connect through the engine harness, like speed sensor, check engine light, A/C inputs, clutch safety/neutral safety switch, immobilizer, etc.

There is always megasquirt

From the swaps I've seen. The rb25 is easy to wire in an engine swap.
