you're right ... but for what it's worth, I really was hoping for some side by side bumping ... say going through the International Horseshoe ... relatively low speed, wet grass, so when they slide off, they slide into the tire barriers ... no one hurt (I would NEVER hope for that) but both cars hurt enough that they aren't in contention ....

For those at the race, thanks for wearing the GRM colors. We couldn't walk 20 feet without seeing a GRM shirt, hat or sticker. Next time, let's make it 10 feet!

For some time all manner of cars went by on the right, the left, yellow flags waving and they manage to drive right up the back of it. Also how long is normal to leave a car in a dangerous spot like that? Everyone had to be able to see that coming.

They supposedly had radio issues, so other teams could let their drivers know about the stalled car, but DW could not. I don't think that completely absolves them, but it probably contributed to the contact.

We stood out at the west horseshoe for a while Saturday evening as darkness fell. We were in the braking zone so could hear the rev-matching on downshifts and see everyone's bias setup. I'm pretty agnostic about the Deltawing but was rooting for them to have a good race after some hard luck, plus who doesn't like Don Panoz? Anyway, the DW could go waaaay deeper into braking zone than the traditional cars. Light weight will do that for you. ;) It's neat that it's out there contributing to mechanical diversity.

And to top that off, Race Control had received information that the PC car was running and in-gear so they delayed throwing a full-course because of that.

Still, there were yellow lights and flags waving locally and the DW driver missed them and then locked up the front tires and fixated on the back of the PC car.

Sucks, but that's racing sometimes.

Yea, it looked like had he not locked them up, he would have cleared inside.

Before radios it would still have been a pretty good display of ineptitude to run into a stopped car after most of the rest of the field had slowed and passed it safely.

Well, JPM ran into a jet drier that had big flashy lights on a lighted track so hitting a dark car at night on a poorly lit track doesn't seem quite as bad to me.

That's like only smashing your junk in a door instead of getting it caught in a meat grinder. The broken suspension bits sound like a better cause than bad radio reception.

The view from up there is pretty spectacular. We watched the opening laps from up there and then took the Midnight Tour up there. You can watch the entire track--it's like watching a giant slot car set.
