Some car side window surrounds/frames are covered in what appears to be a black wrap, rather than paint or plastic. Sometimes rust seems to form under this material. What is the best way to repair the black wrap-type material after you remove the rust? For instance, if I grind off the rust, is there a way to re-wrap the frames? Here's a picture of what I'm looking to repair.
Supposedly it's some sort of vinyl tape (on 90s Thunderbirds at least)
I'd probably mask it off and paint it with a sturdy satin paint or rubberized coating.
Thanks guys, that definitely helps point me in the right direction.
Is it this stuff? https://www.amazon.com/VViViD-Matte-Black-Release-Technology/dp/B07PYK74SG/ref=sr_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=Black+Vinyl+Wrap&qid=1595622319&sr=8-9
Any tips on applying a vinyl wrap in that location?
mr2s2000elise just did this in his build thread.
Looks like you might be able to find the vinyl precut to shape.
That a Ford?
I have a Fiesta and some of that stuff is peeling up where the horizontal and vertical pieces meet
