And its a GS, 12a model, no LSD, no rear discs, no 13B (despite the description saying it is)
This guy has a very clean car but no freaking way its worth that.

That does seem really high. I'm looking at a Rx7 for cheap right now. Seems like the prices are going up some. Then again, everything I find is high in price these days. I found an ad on Craigslist where someone is offering up to $5,000 for a nice 83-85 Rx7.
Please do not touch? Test drive out of the question? It is nice!
Did you see under the hood though?!?!? I've never seen zinc parts that clean. Extremely nice RX-7 to be sure. I'd imagine he could get $6500 out of it at least.
I'm surprised these cars aren't worth more. I mean would would have thought they'd be worth at least what a rubber bumper MG B is.
10:55 AM 12/24 it's at $8900.00. Wow. I have to admit that's probably the most cherry one I have seen in a long time, at least judging by the pics. Wonder if it's got 4" of steering wheel play?
I bid on that a few thousand ago. As nice as it is I can't see more than 6k for it.

There is discussion about this car at BaT:

Considering that's fixed with a $30 aftermarket idler arm, I wouldn't worry too much.
I don't think the price is too far out of line. That is a REALLY clean car. And as they say, there is no inherent value to anything, really, only what someone is willing to pay for it. And if someone's willing to plunk down $9k on a 12A FB, more power to 'em - I'd be 300ZX TT shopping though

The "Wander Steer" is usually caused by play in the steering box but it can be adjusted easily, it needs a 36mm socket to loosen the outer nut then adjust the inner nut, do not go too tight or it will wear badly. In addition I also used a poly idler arm bushing.
With 45K it has most likely not got any steering wear.

A guy who has a 85 just called me back. I may go look at it this week. It looks nice and it's cheap. I rare thing here in Ohio. I would have to look over it really good of course.
Check under to bins for rust, the upper control arms mount there and this is a serious rust point.
Is it original, is it modified?
HA at least this one is a GSL

ahhh.... how much is it worth???
I've been having this discussion for over 25 years. It began when you could buy a DD 1967 289 Mustang fastback for under $2500
provenance... marketing materials... documentation up the wazoo... I'm not a rotary/RX7 fan, but if an AE86 GTS was that nice, with all the documentation, the bid WOULD be in excess of $10k by now
Aussie you saw my yellow early production car, what do you think it would sell for? I wouldn't ask anything less than $5000,but would hope for much more. Mine isn't quite as clean as this, but it is infinite cooler if you ask me. The early steel bumper cars just have that little extra coolness to them that the FB's only wished they had. By the way I love my 12A, and I have a 4-port 13B in my truck, so I have a comparison. The 13B has more torque, but by no means is the 12A a slug.
Yours are going up in price every day now Chris, I wouldn't like to quote a price but hang onto those cars they are rare and getting more desirable by the day.

Thanks for the pointer. It appears to be all original. Is there any certain year most popular of the 1st gen's?

Early SA models are desirable, but if you are looking at a later car, make sure it is a GSL or at least has the GSL rear axle. It has disc brakes and LSD.
Leather in good shape is nice but the red interior is less popular.
Sunroof is 20lbs of weight.
GSL-SE has the 13B EFI engine, also has different axles, rear discs and LSD ratio. Not to mention the 4x114.3 stud pattern with 40 offset making rims an easy find rather than the orphan 4x110 on the rest.
Lightest body is the base model S, steel wheels, no sunroof, no extras, some GS model are close to this in weight also. These got snapped up as race cars so are thin on the ground now.

This one is an 85. Not sure which trim level. I do know it has a 12a and he say's it has power windows (which I hate). It appears to have disc brakes. It has 102,000 miles and he bought it off the original owner who stored it winters. He had it listed for $3500 this summer, but decided to keep it at the time. Someone in his family gave him a 2001 car for a better daily driver so he's letting it go for cheaper just to get rid of it. I got him down to $1500. I would like to have it just to have it, or make a little off of it. He sent some pics. It's the light brown color with brown cloth interior.
Really if the body is rot free it is worth that so long as the paint and interior are decent. Mechanicals are so stupidly simple to work on and repair.
Get pics and post them up

Can't tell from them if it has the LSD or if it is the GSL.
Looks pretty clean, if the floors are solid under the bins and everything is as represented $1500 is not bad, of it is a GSL jump on it.

It's really really easy to put a gsl pumpkin on an S or GS.
I have done it to mine, changed complete rear and front struts from GSL to GSL-SE but it is a consideration when buying because the rear end has a cost factor as well.
This is my 5.0 84
