So this guy comes out of this tire shop parking lot like he just stole the blazer. And he’s shifting gears, and the exhaust pops and back fires every shift, and burbles on decel like a rally car! I mess my short, and could barely stand afterwards.
Was that factory? And was the noise anti lag, or transmission? It shifted like a sequential. It was like Petter Solberg commandeered a Saablazer and a nascar hat.
Like 12 year old trailblazer ss? They have a 400hp ls2 and I’ve heard of them being converted to manuals.
Yeah, TBSSs were just Trailblazers with huge wheels and LS2s, nothing fancy. (Well, also the 14-bolt rear instead of the magnesium 10-bolt, which is a good reason to hold out for a TBSS over a regular one)
As far as I know there was no such thing as a Blazer SS, although the Typhoon might make you think there was one.
I have some dim recall of early 90s Blazers with a tape-and-sticker package that might have had "SS" on them?

Same as Xtreme package only suv maybe?
In reply to Carbon :
I thought Xtreme Blazers were already a thing.
i'm guessing whatever you saw, it wasn't stock. even if it was one of those new "blazer" crossover suv things...none of them would rip like that without mods.
My guess is Trailblazer SS. There seem to be quite a few modded examples running around.
The Extreme was an appearance package only. The Trailblazer SS is quick stock, and lots of owners make them VERY quick.
In reply to racerfink :
It's possible this Xtreme was like the last Xtreme I saw. The last one I saw had slicks on the back and was making loud "V8 with a cam the size of Texas and a turbo for good measure" noises.

They are really fun. I have a good buddy with a really clean one in Columbus Oh if you are interested in one. He put in a freshly built motor sub 100k.

How did everyone get so off course... of COURSE a trailblazer SS, the newish one that shares the same pinning as the Saab version. Thus, the reason I said “Saablazer”

They got off course because you didn't clarify well enough. Also, the TBSS was sold from 2006-2009. The newest one is 10 years old now. Where do you live that you're just now seeing a 13 year old trailblazer model for the first time?
I always liked the old trailblazer SSs, if I were to get a tow vehicle or an SUV I'd probably try for one of them. They go for pretty cheap these days, too.

If it shifted like a sequential, it was probably a 4L80E swap with either a shift kit or a manual valve body. They came with the oh so great *sarcasm* 4L60E and tend to blow up with stock power levels, so even faster with mods and hard driving. A 4L80E swap is really common. As for the rally car pops and burbles, the cats were probably just gone. No FI stock, but it could have been added.

One of my coworkers has a 700hp supercharged TBSS but it is still AWD. I know many convert them to RWD because of the problematic front axle setup. That would help with the silliness but maybe when you get to 700 you can just spin all 4 anyway? I'll ask...
So, my question is: are they going to do a high po SS version of the new new Blazer? That would be kinda cool.

Highly unlikely. In fact, the big news with the Blazer is that next year it gets a lower-powered engine to slot in under the 3.6L engine. That and the fact that GM has gotten a bit of a black eye over them.

Trailblazers aren't Blazers, that is why.
And all TBSSS came with crappy transmissions and were nonturbo.

Winner winner chicken dinner.
Chevy Blazer (in ZX2 trim). Used to be that the Blazer was 2 door and the Suburban was 4 door. Then there was the Tahoe which was 2 door or 4 door, then they brought back the Blazer as 4 door only. Nowadays, we have sedans that identify as coupes so I guess anything goes.
Oddly enough, Ford also made a ZX2

And are based off a Trailblazer, which is an abomination of a vehicle. The TBSS just happens to be a fast abomination.
