Sorry but there is not enough beer in the world that could bring my IQ down to a point where this show would be funny or even remotely entertaining.

Nope. It is not a very funny show. It does not have "real" racing. It has contrived competition set up so there is no point in watching as the outcome is determined by stacking the deck in your favor to the point where it is just a bunch of horse crap.

Well, I just watched the first episode and I echo many of the sentiments here. You can't pick imports that are obviously underdogs and expect us to join in on the pointing and laughing. Especially when said underdogs stay within spitting distance of, say, brand new factory racecars with twice the horsepower.

I mean, who doesn't love to hate on Gallardos, and yet there I was, hoping like hell he'd squeak past Kenny Wallace.

I gave it the old college try last night. I didn't expect it to be "real" racing and tried to just drink my beer and laugh along.

That said, I just couldn't stomach it. I love watching muscle cars hustle around a track (one of my favorite parts of the Mitty), but this show was so contrived it was pointless and therefore not at all entertaining. Maybe if the smack talk of the "head redneck" was a little more creative it would've given me a reason to watch the whole thing, but that wasn't the case.

Sorry Bill - just not my bag. I'm glad you joined the forum and discussed it with us though.

Thinking back on things. When the guy driving the Gallardo was leaving they have him miked up and he is saying it is the most intense thing he has ever done (or something to the effect)

I was like DUDDDDDDDDDDDDDDE you have a Lambo if that is the most exciting thing you have done you are obviously doing it wrong!!!!! Then again he has a Lambo so he is doing something rite.

I could think of something like get a bunch of Lambo and Ferrari owners together for a weekend and rent road america. Then go race each other. Call it the Lambo Ferrari challenge. Wait I think I just created a TV show Take two car brands and get there owners together at a track. Talk some smack and then go racing.

Set up a tree with various car types / brands and the winner moves on. I will use this as an example. A bunch of mustang owners show up. Let them run laps in an open practus session (similar to F1 format) and the drivers with the top 4 lap times are now a team and win $500 each. The teams then compete against each other with each of the four team members competing against there counterpart on the other team. Each team win nets the team $4K Looser go home. At the end you have the final compensation between the two car brands / types and they go at it for say 10K. Add in the usual Speed TV contrived smack / girlfriend problems car problems and what not and you have a made for speed TV reality show with real racing.

Ohya every time a team wins a round they get a new "coach" for the next round. This should be some well known driver or crew chief from the professional world. They are given an hour of practis (15 min of track time with the coach / driver) prior to each race. As you move up the ladder the star status of the coachs get bigger as well. And to keep the producers at speed happy you could also have the coaches talking smack as well.

If by chance there is a tie (two wins each) The driver of the fastest team car has to drive the slowest drivers car against the same for the other team.. . .. Or you could have the "coaches" go at it in there pick of one of there teams cars.

OK, now that I've watched this, I am sad to say it was precisely my fear about what would happen. I may glance at a few, but the simple fact is, I don't see anything changing. Not until someone trolls their system and keeps ratcheting up the power to make them look bad(and will probably get dq'd for it).....it wasn't entertaining, and it wasn't "real" racing.

I love my muscle cars, but seriously, all I can say is berkeley this E36 M3.

Ugh. Racing Road America that weekend. Otherwise I would totally bring the Little Lamb-o, Assuming I can be on team redneck (I do consider Rural King my speed shop of choice).

To just pile on the discussion, Bill, first let me say I did enjoy the show, and would suggest that the haters change the channel already. If it were my show (and it isn't) I would have gone the direction of "rural cheapskate racer boys" versus "more money than sense track snobs".

I think HOW a car is constructed has more to do with whether it is perceived as "redneck" than the make and model. Just bearing a domestic manufacturer's badge doesn't make a car 'redneck', IMO, just like wearing a Toyota badge doesn't make a car not redneck.

Think duct tape versus carbon fiber - that was the show I was kinda hoping to see. Then stack the deck as best you can in favor of duct tape. People like to see underdogs win, and the Super Chicken piloted by a NASCAR legend is no underdog.

I could turn Swank Force One back into a sleeper in a weekend i think. The Escort would seem like a better choice on the surface, but for the type of racing they're doing, i'm pretty sure the MX6 would be substantially faster.

Buuuttttt..... i'm casting my vote for Keith's LSx MG.

But i'm sure that would be disqualified for "not being an import."

Would they disqualify the MX6 if i put a Ford valve cover on it?

Would the Escort count as an import since it has Mazda valve covers on it?

I am talking about American Street Car Series. I had nothing to do with the TV show other than I was one of the "Rednecks". Producers and networks drive the direction of how the show airs. Read back thru this one thread and if every thing everyone suggested was put into the show, it would be a 4 hour event, that just isn't going to happen. With the name of the show, what did you really think was going to happen??? On the other hand, you want real "Run want you Brung" racing, come to Kershaw. If you are faster than me, Brian, Yancy or the other rednecks, then guess what, no one is going to argue with you when the results go up on our website. American Street Car Series doesn't care what you bring to race, we just want to see you race. Come show us how fast U R. Are YOU IN or are you just posting to post? Anyone can hammer a keyboard, however, time for the BS to stop and let the times tell the tale. No producer or cameras in April, just rubber and gasoline.
