Fun fact: The grills on those cars are highly desirable for some reason.

When I had my SHO the 1st Gen SHO guys would buy them to get air to their IC's for turbo'd and S/C'd motors. They were being reproduced at one time, IIRC.
DC still has a few of these running around...parked exactly like this one. My dad was a police detective and his last cruiser was an unmarked Tauras, same model as the one in this picture. Never wouldve guessed it was a cop car.
While we're all doing Grill Trivia, the 2nd gen Taurus police package had an extra slot (maybe a centimetre wide) just above the middle of the front bumper. Very low-profile. I don't know if they were ever considered collectible, though.
SS? What will they call the hopped up version? The SS SS? Call the damn thing a Chevelle and get it over with.

Agreed, but it's a 4-door. If they were really smart they would have called it the Impala and renamed the current/new FWD Impala something else, like Bel Air, Del Ray, or Biscayne.

a 4 door called "Chevelle" wouldn't be too weird or offend too many people..

We had a couple running around in SE PA back in the day. Some were marked, but one was an unmarked maroon sedan. That one was the ultimate radar trap; no one questions a dumpy maroon Taurus sitting on the shoulder.
My local police department has been using the Caprice for years. Recently they were considering the Charger which the sheriffs dept has. The officers said that they prefer the FWD car for in city duty and considering the weather in upstate NY.

How was it any different than the civilian Taurus?

I think you mean the Impala. Caprice was discontinued in 1996. The new Caprice PPV just came out this year.

Cop shocks, cop brakes, cop tires.......
In reality it likely had a larger radiator, larger alt, full throttle lock up on the trans, engine oil cooler, ext trand and p/s coolers and the 3.8L V6.

Sooooo you don't really know? You say, "likely." before 91-97 Interceptors were barely worthy of being called "Interceptors." I have a hard time believing the police Taurus had anything more than a larger transmission cooler.

That's a Malibu son

I'm pretty sure it was being suggested that a four door Chevelle "would look like this."
The Taurus had SHO suspension and brakes along with an extra 5 horsepower they pulled out if their ass. A very poorly built service vehicle imo.

I know what GM does for PPV's, but never realyl cared about what Ford did. Never liked the CV's personally. I was all about the 9C1 abd B4C's.
In reply to Javelin:
Incorrect! I am a fan of the old Charger AND I think the new Charger is a better vehicle in every way.
Of course, now I have kids, so four doors is something that ticks a box I never cared about until 8 years ago.
Call it nit picking, but I seriously hope if they bring a new RWD sedan they don't screw up the beltline like they have on the Camaro.

No kidding, I am 5' 8", with a short torso and I can't see a damn thing out of that tank.
