I have missed the Mid Ohio Vintage in recent years but it is one of my favorite events. The racing is good and the Saturday car show as well a just the regular plethora of cool cars in the parking lot does provide sensory overload!

911rs, 914-6, 2002, insert 60s-70s brit car of choice here, something pre-war - you get the track to yourself for a nice cruise, 510, 240 (are all of them in bre livery?).

Says who? At the WG Vintage Festival, the pre-war class is some of the tightest racing of the w/e. Those guys drive thier cars hard.

Indeed. The pre-war class out at Monterrey was anything but a nice cruise when we went in 2010...

How about a Mk1 Escort? There were two there over the weekend, they just look and sound so right.

It was a really thin pre-war field at the vscda outing a couple of weekends ago - 4 mgs, a miller and 3 bugattis. They were driving hard, but road america is a big course for a field of 8 that also have big speed differences.

It must seem like an eternity to lap RA in a pre-war MG. At least the fans can jog along side to keep an eye on their favorites

A lot of cars feel like they take a while to get around RA - especially if you're not around some traffic.

I suppose. I've only seen the racing at WG. It's not a huge group, but usually a decent one. Unfortunately, one of the really grass-roots old-car racers didn't run last year. They showed up with an old Ford (the "Old Grey Mare", I think )and an old Bugatti on a home-made open stacker trailer pulled by a ratty pick-up with a slide-in camper.

If we're picking cars to go vintage racing with - none of the above. For me, it would likely be a Volvo 1800 or maybe a Spitfire or GT6.

If we are talking any amount of money to go vintage racing, I would have a MG Midget R-Type.

Money no object? Historic Trans Am car... 50's Ferrari... some 70's or 80's F-1 car... 60's Lotus sports racer... all of the above...

If money is no object. I am fairly sure this one was at Mid Ohio over the weekend, oh so cool.

See this confuses me: I don't see "Miata", "M3" or "Toyobru" as related to Vintage Racing.
And yes, I know that Miata are "almost" eligible age-wise. But I really hope the clubs keep them out of vintage racing (my daily driver is an NB).

To be honest, no matter how much money I had, I'd still race a Spridget or other little British car. Tom Cotter could probably race anything he wants, and he runs a Morris Minor.

One thing that looks like great fun is the ~750 Austin 7 class~ in the UK. But the tow from NJ would be hell. So if I won the lottery I buy a racing A7 and fly it over to all the 750MC races.

Racing A7s

By the way, I wouldn't say a lot of us "cruise" in vintage. I club raced as a mid-pack amateur for years. Now, in vintage, I'm still mid-pack, and I'm racing just as hard.

~Here's me in a 1 minute video~ earlier this year in my stock-engine Spridget. Trying like crazy to hold off two faster MGs (that TD is one of the fastest in the US and MGA has 50% more power than me). The ALFA held us up a bit but at the end four of us crossed the checker side-by-side. We were all trying as hard as we could. No cruising.

Agreed - hence my first post...

After thinking about it more... if money were no object, I'd still go with a vintage Trans Am car. Mainly because I really drooled over them when I was younger. I need to dig up the pic of me in the #77 Challenger and change my FB pic.

Something tells me that as long as Spec Miata is around, there isn't much worry of Miata's invading the vintage ranks... other than maybe that first car that was the subject of a thread here some time ago.

Same here. The 911T 2.0L cars call to me. Well, all of them call to me - that one is just louder.
