Can confirm. I have seen transporter drivers screw cars up while unloading, and i also know the level of driving experience of the typical $8-10/hr porter hired by a new car dealership. To me it all comes down to the quality of repair.

I agree with this. Get the very best example up front. You will always know.
If you want a perfect that you baby and have to worry about then sell and go get it. I would keep the one you have and modify to tast and enjoy it where ever I wanted no worrying if I get a ding or dent or even a off track adventure or two. Have fun with it. Drive it like it was meant to be driven.
I almost have more respect for a semi-rare or rare car (and it's owner) with high mileage and wear from use than I do for the same car with 34,567 on the odometer and is in concours condition.

He never drove it, and all the satisfaction he got was from looking at it in his garage. He was enjoying the IDEA of the car, rather than the car itself. Seemed like such a waste to me. He sold it after it started needing a lot of maintenance items, it never went up in value because he didn't drive it. I like that my cars aren't garage queens, it helps me enjoy driving them more.
He didn't sell it in the right place then. There are plenty of people who will pay good money for an E39 540 with 6 speed and low miles. BMW forum would have been the place or BAT. It is really hard to find a E39/36 BMW with low miles and they fetch top dollar if they are in good condition.
