Well, it's not the CX-4, as that's been confirmed for a Beijing debut.
Okay, small update.
Rumor has it that Mazda will be holding a media reveal the Tuesday evening before the show.
Rumor also has it that a certain magazine editor has a shuttle arranged so he can make it from JFK to said reveal just in time.
Will said magazine editor at least give us a heads up if we should be excited or not before public reveal?

Potentially.
Can't understand the hate for the PRHT. With the top up they are quiet, the A/C works better, they are more secure from vandals and criminals, and the weight difference is negligible in daily driving. I've had a few NC PRHT press cars, and I loved them......nearly bought one. The power top in no way diminishes or ruins the car----it just makes it much more versatile. They make you wonder why people spend thousands more on Z4s, SLKs and Boxsters.
The coupe is gorgeous, but it probably doesn't make sense financially for Mazda to make it. That's ok---- the Frisbee twins fill that slot in the market. I'd rather see Mazda stay in business, they are one of the few car companies that seem to "get it".
I have sat in some NB-chassis coupes. They just felt so nice. Sadly I didn't get to take one for a spin.
And, of course, we might be seeing some sort of CX-x, too. CX-2?
I kind of want them to do some Nissan level nuttery like make a Rotary CX-4 to see the rage it would generate.
If Mazda would make a PRHT that will fit a roll-bar or have enough strength to withstand a roll on it's own then I one would be in my garage. Until then...

Please, please, please, please, please!!!!
I have a '15 Mazda6 Touring with a manual trans but I would trade it in for the wagon in a heartbeat if it came to the states. I miss owning a wagon.
Not to pile-on, but I've been waiting for a Miata hatch/coupe for 15 years.
I own a '14 FR-S, so I put my money where my mouth is.
If they built an ND Miata (or a Fiat 124, I might even prefer the Fiata) with a permanent, metal hard top I'd own one.

"How much fail can we put in one vehicle? We need something even more stupid than the Murano Convertible!"
That said the Frisbees' biggest failure is that they are not hatchbacks. And that the redline is so low Seriously, if you're going to do a 2 liter N/A engine, make that thing sing. Don't do some whiny weenie truck engine 7000rpm redline slug motor crap. Spend a few more bucks and let the engine sing to 10k or something. It's a naturally aspirated engine! Don't apologize for it, revel in it!
I spent the last few days elbow deep in a Subaru FB engine. This engine looks way better engineered than the EJ engines ever were. Major pain in the ass to work on compared to the EJs but way better put together. This engine is begging for more cam and more compression and more RPM. Boost is for trucks and other losermobiles!

Roger that.
I'd hope the above car got a real hatch and not a mail slot of a trunk opening like the current Mustang has. Not that I'm a shopper, just another voice from the peanut gallery.
For those who aren't press...

If I knew I was moving to the northeast, I would have probably chosen a PRHT over a ragtop. The ragtop is just so fast, so easy, and without drama that putting the top down for even a ten minute drive makes sense. When I was in SoCal, I had the top down every day on the drive home from work.
Mazda started making them in 2006 They were never very popular in the US, especially once the PRHT showed up. I think the Cup cars used more than anyone else. I think Treasure Coast Miata might have an aftermarket option.
The RHT (removable hard top) has nicer lines than the PRHT. The PRHT's greenhouse just seems a bit off in size, which is why I think it looks best in black. Black seems to hide the strange proportions a little bit.
GT, body colored PRHT:
25 AE, basically a GT with a black top and gorgeous paint:
A few minutes on Google couldn't find me any decent pictures, but here's the RHT:
