Yes! That thing is clean.
You could probably improve it a lot by just adjusting and lubing the shifter and linkage. That said, I have a brand-new Richmond T10 with a new Hurst linkage in my TA and it will never shift like a Miata.
Adrian_Thompson wrote: I hate to be that guy, but have you thought of an auto instead if you're going for an L98 car? I've driven the 4+3 and have lot's of time in my FIL's old auto L98 car. That car / trans combo's is one of the best suited to an auto of anything I've ever driven, it was the car that convinced me auto's weren't the sporn of the devil only to be used if you had a limb missing. I honestly prefer a C4 L98 car with the auto. Seriously, go try one.
I'll second "that guy." The 4+3 wasn't that reliable a solution, which is why GM eventually went away from it. Having driven all three, I'd stack rank your options; 6-spd was a rock solid #1, fun and solid, auto is #2, not as much fun but solid, 4+3 weird and problematic.
The 6-speeds became available in 1989. Only about 25% of C4s had a manual, so they are tough to find.
The L98 was a stout, torquey engine. Not as much horsepower as the subsequent LT1 and LT4 engines, but free from the dreaded OptiSpark "distributor". As a Vette-guy, I'd recommend on the 89-91 models for cheap, minimal headache ownership.

So... any particular reason for a vette?
I mean, I like them and they are cool, but at the end of the day, I'd probably own a 4th gen Camaro over a 92 and older vette. Just sayin ;)

I was in this same dilemma. The biggest issue with the 4th gens, for me, was the cramped engine bay. I had JUST sold my 944t (my second)and one of the reasons was because I was sick and tired of working on it. I raised that big clamshell hood on the vette and was very happy in comparison.

One time I was going coming off the interstate, od on, and downshifting to go through and intersection and turn left, so got to 2nd gear, od still on, and am starting through the intersection when the light turns yellow so I get on it a little to move through quickly, well OD kicks down and the car shoots sideways....weeeeee! lol Generally I get in the car, start it up, then turn od off, then don't use it again until I need a "5th" gear. oh if you didn't know I bought Bobzilla's old c4. as far as the trans feel...it's probably less clunky than the 915 in my 911, but I guess that isn't saying a whole lot. To me it feels good enough....doesn't ruin the driving experience or anything, so count me in the group that thinks the one you drove need s little TLC.
Yeah.... it didn't do that before the rebuild. I wonder why? lol

I'm still planning to dyno it, but needed to do some others first. Now it looks like I'll plan another dyno day in July, so hopefully then.
