Thanks to Tom and his enthusiasm for the Mazda2 I'm back in the saddle. I autocrossed a mk1 Focus for a couple of years and even got a challenge car to the running and driving stage (2004 I think) before a pile of children forced me into minivans and out of driving for fun. I even let my GRM subscription lapse because getting the magazine was sort of depressing. I still read about cars though and have a very soft spot for cheap low powered hatches. When the Scion FRS was announced both my wife and I fell for it and had plans to scoop one up, but I chickened out because it's a fair pile of money for something that didn't feel 100% right to me. It's a sports car and though I like sports cars, I love hatches. Reading about Tom's enthusiasm for the 2 got me out to drive one and the rest is history, I brought it home yesterday. I re-upped my GRM subscription for 10 years, re-joined the SCCA for 3, and will be signing up for my first autocross in years in two weeks. I'm even dragging the family out to the SCCA races in Houston this weekend, just to watch fast cars drive around. I wish I could have given my sales commission to Tom instead of the salesman at the dealer. He was a nice kid, but Tom sold me on the car. Mazda's support of racing and racer's support of Mazda is part of what brought me back into this hobby. Thanks to all of you, especially Tom.
