Have you driven a jk? It is not a bad driving vehicle given its capabilities. Granted it has a lot of wind noise but that's what you get driving a brick shaped vehicle with a simple canvass top.
I am glad it is still being made and hasen't been diluted or destroyed in the name of economy or safety.
Why is everyone's so worked up about this. Think of it this way one of the most capable off road vehicles ever made is available for under 30k. It has a removable roof, 300 hp, and is available with a manual, not to mention it is easy to repair, holds its value, can be used as a family vehicle and has literally the best aftermarket support of any vehicle bar none. I am not surprised at all they are popular.
If you could get one of fastest best handling cars around for that price would everyone complain when they are bought in large numbers and not raced.
I am just glad I can still buy something like a wrangler...

Yeah but those are all good road cars.
Part of my personal definition for a "good road car" is four doors and not having any concerns about things like speed bump/parking curb height, put holes, or severe weather capabilities. As such, I'd argue that sports cars and pony cars are not inherently any better, or worse, of road cars than a modern Wrangler. It simply depends on each individuals definition.
I find it funny that people are getting spun up. Even Rough Country (a large manufacturer of aftermarket Jeep/4x4 parts), makes fun of the mall crawler thing.
Check it:

be sure to read the features boxes at the bottom, lol.

lots of judgement in here. It’s their money and they should be able to use the vehicle however they want.

General population judgement across the spectrum too. What do you need 500 hp for? Why do you need a full size truck when all you haul is a lunch bucket?
It's their nickel, life is too short, whatever makes ya happy.
Heck, I've done more "off roading" in my Forester than most Jeeps. Here it is at the top of Ophir Pass, in March. And that was with really crappy Falken Sincera touring tires. I was really wishing I had the snow tires on up there!
And for real, what is the deal with those ridiculously ugly "angry" grills that are on nearly half of the Wranglers?

I had to custom make mine so I could fit in.

I saw a 4 door jeep yesterday, all decked out for offroading with the expedition style bumpers, lights, winch, and the spare bolted to the rollcage.. rolling on low profile chrome rims.
Interesting that nobody on this site seems to have considered the possibility of having one set of wheels/tires more suited to on-road driving, and another for when they want to hit the trails...Much like people here do for tracking their street cars. I'm not saying this is necessarily the norm, but it is one more reason not to jump to conclusions about people we have never even interacted with..
I have thought of it. I almost grabbed a set of Rover 16 inch rims just so I could put some serious off roading rubber on them.
As for the jeep in question: it was outside a local stereo install shop, so I tend to doubt it goes offroading, it's probably weighed down with a few hundred pounds of subwoofers and amps
Someone who lives near me has this grill alteration. Best I can tell, all that is required is some properly placed black tape.

You say that as if carrying a few hundred extra pounds somehow makes a Jeep incapable of going anywhere off-road.

I’ve mentioned how I feel earlier so I won’t repeat it now.
But I’d like to add that while no one should be obsessed with how other people use the things they buy, it’s also ok to voice our opinions on the matter.
I guess I don’t understand the sarcastic comments toward people discussing the world around them and actually (gasp) write down how they feel on the topic.

not at all, but if you had a couple thousand dollars in stereo equipment in your jeep, would you chance it getting muddy and wet (yes, I know YOU would...)

I love my Jeep JK. I sold 3 Land Rovers that I had worn out and was sick of buying parts for to get it. The 3 Rovers sold for enough to pretty much cash out a brand new Rubicon. It helped that it was 2008, almost 2009, and nothing was selling. I only paid 28K for it, new. The window sticker price was almost 40K.
I now have 140K miles on it. It has been driven off cliffs, over and into other vehicles, drug over rocks and through mud, as well as many road trips and a few years of commuting 70 miles a day. Despite those who endlessly complain about Jeeps lack of whatever it is people think they lack, it has been a great vehicle. I wouldn't sell it.
I wouldn't buy another one either. Mine is built and done. There isn't one part on it that can't be replaced by something better when it breaks, so I will cross big lifted Jeep off my dream garage list, I've got one and it is a keeper.
But, it is loud inside, sometimes wobbles and shakes, wears out big tires and drivetrain components faster than other vehicles, is not that warm in the winter, rattles a lot, and has crappy seats. It isn't for everyone. I have no idea why soccer moms buy them. Mine has never crawled it's way through a mall parking lot either. The mall is over 4 hours away (over mountain passes even) and if I needed to go into the cities, I'd drive my Mini.

If I had a couple thousand dollars in stereo equipment, the top would not come off my Jeep any time it might get wet...Which would hold true regardless of whether it's being driven on-road or off-road at the time.
Either that or I'd see if it's possible to put together a system with marine grade (waterproof) components.

Said someone who had NO idea how much we "off roaders" do help and protect the environment. We don't complain about all the bikers and hikers that throw garbage on the trail, we just toss it in the garbage bag we bring expressly for that purpose.
That's only the day-to-day stuff there's lots of people out there fighting to keep public land open.....for ALL users.
Thumbs up!
I don't think I was clear on what I meant..... If you have the people who buy Jeeps for the purpose of Mall Crawling deciding they need to go offroading all the sudden.. There won't be more anymore off road. That is my point. Let them drive their jeeps to the mall. If all the sudden they think they need real 'cred' you are going to have a lot more trash to pick up. Then you will have a hard time convincing anyone it is a great idea.
I know.. I am out there picking trash up myself. You have to get them to be conservationists before they leave the pavement.
I had a JK Unlimited as a rental on a work trip once. Normally, I rent a compact, but they were out.. Overall it wasn't bad to drive, and from a comfort standpoint, I'd put it above my NA Miata. I wouldn't buy one unless I was planning on using it offroad, but that's just me. It was, however, wholly unsuitable for driving around in Toronto rush hour when completely unfamiliar with the area.
"Soccer moms" and "mall crawlers"....I pick my only kid up from school in an excursion and I also take my family (3 people) to the mall in my excursion. What say the GRM Gods? What am I?

You’re me! I drive empty 99% of the time in a Yukon Denali XL. I’d understand the criticism if it came my way. I should be driving a small car.

I look at it as I ‘should’ drive whatever I want. Why ‘should’ I drive some commuter penalty box if I dislike them?
