Kind of apt considering a VS thread that just happened. I saw this car posted on Saabnet.. the Kia Track'ster concept... reminded them (and me!) of the gremlin pic I posted.

Man, I'd love for a new RWD Kammback car to be released. I've caught myself lusting after Golfs of late just due to the form factor (even if I can get past the wrong-wheel-drive, I just have a really hard time buying anything German in my price range).
That is a pretty car.
So what company will be the first to release a compact hatchback that's rear wheel drive? -A throw back to the '70s type cars that we all love. (Starlet, Gremlin, Pinto,GLC...)
Sorry, that KIA thing looks awful to me. Like a Soul and a Mini...well you know....and the results had...defects....
I'd rather have the Gremlin.
before long you'll have 4 options for vehicles, a small bubble, a big bubble, a truck, or an exotic, I guess I'll just have to rock a truck or an exotic...
In reply to Raze:
Have you driven a modern pickup truck lately? I can dice through round-abouts pretty quickly with my F150, and I have a miata in which to compare it!

That's a really good question... it'd have to come about either because they see a market for it (i.e. if the FT86 just crushes sales of all other small cars and the surveys all refer to the RWD preference) or if it's a Hail Mary attempt from an automaker either trying to establish itself or prevent its decline.
My bets would be on Kia, Nissan, or Mazda.
