And, now the Focus is not mine either.  I was willing to go $2,424 all in and I got bumped by one increment to $2,539.

It was still a good day.

Thank ya all for playing along.

My plan is to pick them up Friday.

I guess we can just keep this thread going, now as a build thread.

As one who has bought and sold thousands of cars at auction, I applaude you for sticking to your limits.  In an auction environment it's easy to get excited and overbid.   You know these cars and only paid what you were comfortable would leave you room for a profit.  Well done!

Another 45 minutes before pre-biddng ends, and the Accord is already past my limit. Currently about $2,300, all in.

That's just as well, because there is a high chance that it needs a timing chain, guides, and actuators.  It may even have been jumping in and out of time.  K24s do not take kindly to extended oil change intervals or being run low.

I have a right side headlight I'll send your way for the cost of shipping if you want it.  I bought a pair of brand new for my wreck.  Just let me know.

White one came with headlight but I missed the two of three broken mounting points.  I thought it was just missing one (and I could work with that.)

HID version.

The baggies are labeled fasteners for the front bumper cover which I think I can save.

The white one is so dealer serviced that it has Toyota Brand wiper blades!

One mini repair completed. The white drivers door rubbed (as denoted by adjusters green marker) and had that classic rub-sound when opening.

No more contact, no more sound.

Far from perfect but looking less like a derelict to the neighbors.

Hot water helped to reshape the bumper cover.

In reply to John Welsh :

For my last flip, I bought a heat gun specifically to get the cover HOT ( but not too hot) for reshaping.  Note, I pointed the gun at the unpainted side, and occasionally touched the painted side to ensure it was not going to blister the paint.  It seemed to work better than just hot water 🔥 🌊

Before the night ended I had th silver one appearing less derelict also, even if thats just a temporary appearance.

I'm contemplating the IAAI game.  COPART has become too expensive for me to play.

In OH, I can buy as an independant (not a dealer).

Been playing the Copart game with a broker and low value items kill me

On a 2000 bid with a broker I'm at 3200 out the door.  With a 3000 bid I'm at 4350 out the door

About 500$ is a fixed fee with my broker with the remainder COPART fees

Does picking the car up with a forklift do any damage? I see junkyards do it all the time and wondered what the underside of a car looks like afterwards.

Via IAA in Ohio as an Public Buyer (not dealer) and no broker needed...

$2,000 Bid

$2,709.00  Cost Breakdown

  • Bid Amount$2,000.00
  • Buyer Fee$500.00
  • Internet Bid Fee$99.00
  • Service Fee$95.00
  • Environmental Fee$15.00

$3,000 Bid

$3,859.00  Cost Breakdown

  • Bid Amount$3,000.00
  • Buyer Fee$650.00
  • Internet Bid Fee$99.00
  • Service Fee$95.00
  • Environmental Fee$15.00

IAA charges real dealers a different fee structure.  Said another way, Ohio allows for the public to buy without a broker but given the higher fees that IAA charges to a Public Buyer, its really just as if IAA is making themselves the broker and keeping the broker fees for themselves.

I have had not problems with the forks and the Prius which generally have a smooth underbelly.  I did have some unexplained frame damage to an Equinox that I bought and I'll admit, I always wondered if it was fork lift damage.  I wish there was another way but they will not let you drive the cars out of the lot.

Minor update...

It was Friday that I brought these cars home.  Friday night about 10pm I replied to a FB add from a Prius Dismantler that I've done business with in the past.  I wrote what parts I needed and he wrote back the next early afternoon with what he had.  Of what he had I said, "I'll take it all."  Then Saturday about 2:00 I set out for 1.5 hours there and 1.5 hours back.

With a receipt that qualifies for Ohio Salvage Inspection (and includes sales tax) I bought:

$150 sliver bumper cover

$85 silver fender

$21 Steering wheel (for the silver car since the one it has is warn from like ring wearing.)

$10 Antenna

Also for the white I have:

$21 headlamp with a bad ballast (but mine has a good ballast.)

$21 white hood hinges (unbent)

Still need white bumper cover and fender.  The silver car still needs a Left Headlamp (non-xenon)

That completed Saturday and there was no time to work on the cars Sunday so I have gotten no further.  Tomorrow, Tues, I may make it to the title office and get the cars into my name.

This upcoming weekend I have a job to do a hybrid battery install and trunk latch install.  Happy to make that money!  But, it will keep me from getting these two cars advancing further.

Tuesday I got the cars in my name.

Today, Saturday I got some late afternoon time with the Silver car.

New trunk/latch trim installed in universal black color.
$53 and about 1 hrs time.

Fresh fender, bumper cover installed.  I saved the headlight which still hed 1.5 good connectors out of 3.
About 2 hours time.  In this picture the front bumper is just set in place.  Tomorrow I will get the plastic underskirting all put together ( a jigsaw puzzle in itself and better done in increasing daylight not the decreasing daylight of this evening.)

The jig saw puzzle is complete!

I did get out the heat gun today and went back to the original bumper cover.  Its a little out of shape with some spider web cracking of the finish and a gouge at the headlamp.  But, other than saving me $150 I think it also does a better job of telling the sales story that this car took a really light hit.

Only fender replaced.  There is a slight scuff to the headlamp too.

I'll put that recently purchased silver bumper cover on a shelf.  There will be more Prius and silver is a popular color.

Tomorrow, I'll go to the Ohio BMV and pay for an inspection reservation, $53.50  We'll see how far out it will be for an actual appointment.  I've experienced a 2 week wait time before.

Some interior cleaning (I might just pay the $200 for a pro-detailing) and this car is ready to go down the road!
