You're misunderstanding that car when you ask for IRS, in my opinion. A solid rear axle with short gears and an LSD is what it should have.
I'm with you on the styling, though; F-body styling is E36 M3 across the board and has been for decades. The GTO was like a less sexy version of the Chevy Lumina.

I don't know the full story of the Fiero but I understand that some of it was just the unusual formula of an American car company producing a MR sports car. I think that I also read that the suspension geometry wasn't as good in the early cars compared to the latest cars. I should read more on what the magazine wrote about it. The Solstice and the Sky got killed partially from the economic downturn; I'm fairly sure that they were above average sports cars at worst. The G8 got killed directly because of the death of Pontiac. GM resurrected it with the Chevy SS, which is a terrible name for a car. Chevy needs to put a manual trans to it.
