My son is working on his "new to him" project, a 2002 QX4(fancy pathfinder). He has fixed most of the real issues and is now just trying to fix all the little things. We are currently trying to track down a new latch that holds the cupholder lid shut. It looks just like this....
It seems to be called a DL-8 Plastic Push Push Door Lock Automatic Switch For Household Electric Appliances. The issue is the only place we can find it is on the Chinese importer sites and we really don't need to buy a thousand of them. Does anyone know of a place we can buy just one?
So far he has learned how to change suspension links, steering rack, A arms, tie rods, shocks/struts, springs, swaybar bushings...... It's a bit more of a project than I think he thought it was, but he is doing good so far.
How about a used QX4 cupholder? One with a working latch?
Is this part unique to QX4 or does Pathfinder have the same part?
Used cupholder assembles are 40-50 bucks, even then we are talking about a 20 year old plastic latch. Not sure about the pathfinder version, most of the fancy trim parts are different. This cupholder had "wood" print on it.
That's just begging to be a 3D printing project.
Hidden valley auto shows a qx4 on the lot, not sure it's worth the 2 hour trip though.
Using site Row52.com I find two QX4's in Phoenix.
This place has had the Qx4 since March 29th. Their price list shows:
Cup holder: $2.99
Console lid: $7.99
Center Console: $15.99
It depends on what they call the part. I'd shoot for cup holder but console lid is still reasonable.
Another yard in Phoenix has had a QX4 since March 23rd.
OK. So after several hours of looking, we found it under a different name (SR-005) on AliExpress, and we only have to buy 5 at a time. The used/junkyard was thought about, but he is only 15 and none of the ones here will let him in yet. Also, a 4hr drive for a plastic clip is not the time schedule in the near future.
