Is what they are saying about the transfer case true? That because it splits power 35/65 that the horsepower shown on the dyno is only 65% of actual?
I would like more info on that!! It looks like it is a rather well thought out swap. It looked almost factory. I wonder if there is a website somewhere that outlines that build.
I've seen quite a few Exploders with ruined trannies. Is the transmission strong enough for boost on that car?
Great install tho. A serious sleeper.
Seems like a lot of intake tubing would result in some substantial lag. And I'm assuming a red hot turbo would not take kindly to a splash of water from a puddle, let alone winter weather. Am I right?
Really, I'm trying to find a drawback to prevent me from buying a P71 and doing this, like, tomorrow.
With that small intercooler, i doubt the volume of the intake tubing is any more than a similar setup w/ less tubing and a big air-air intercooler... maybe even less.
Cool truck.
Similar fun could be had w/ a Olds Bravada w/ the AWD system...
STS Turbo Systems use a remote mount turbo also, I thought the same about the Iron housing coming in contact with rainwater... They say the intercooler isn't necessary if boost is kept reasonable as the surface area of the piping acts like a large heatsink.
Explorer trans fail but not due to that. It has to do with the intake manifold gasket failing / low coolant issues. The motor will sill still run with about half the coolant (no pressure in the system) but the trans cooler will be exposed in the rad. Thus the trans cooks. The trans in them really does not like much about 235 or so. The best thing you can do if you have a Explorer / mountaineer is to disconnect the cooler from the rad and put a large heavy duty front mounted trans cooler. Add regular finder service and they are virtually indestructible.
