Have a look at this for a fun track dog. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4647158

That's the owner's build thread on something not VW Vortex.
I've thought about trying to build a simple frame , connecting two Miata subframes together, and dropping on some sort of kit car body like one of those Beetle based Bugattis. Open air motoring ,with Miata dependabilty. What more could one ask for ?
I like it but he should have tighten up the frame rails some to at least meet the same rigidity of a miata.

Open air motoring with miata dependability? That IS a miata...

Looks like he fully boxed the frame rails so I'm guessing its pretty stiff. Its not like our beloved Miata has the stiffest chassis around. Something tells me this comment will be followed by a wiener joke in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

That truck is dope, regardless. Great idea/execution...
Joel, No. Open air motoring where you can skin your elbow on the rear tire. I've been reading too many British classic car magazines, me thinks.

WINNER RIGHT THERE!
John- that's an interesting idea- one that would fit in a Datsun 2000, wouldn't it?
Coulda been a conteda.....

Thats pretty awesome.
I have a thread saved from awhile back when a nissan D21 truck was given IRS from an s13 240sx. Damn near bolts in.
I just spent the last hour looking at this guy's build thread and not doing homework or studying. It was worth it.

Not only that you probably learned more usable stuff for later in life.
That truck is soooo bad! Great build thread!
I know he's wanting the stock sleeper look but that thing just begs for box flares. Under 2000 lbs, adding lightness works its magic again. Just awesome.
Wow, yeah, amazing way to spend an hour reading through that. That is really a grassroots build. Tim, when are you guys interviewing him & his truck for the mag?????
I was equally impressed with the shots on page-15 of the thread of his 15-year old son testing an Indy car!!!
I sometimes thought of doing a "suspension swap" onto a custom chassis...I always thought an Elise could be a good donor but those Miata parts look like they could do the job too...hmm....
Those are from an NA miata right?

His subframes are I think but I am also pretty sure the NB ones are almost identical.
