Yeah, a boat ramp is a special case because of being more wet / slippery further down, so FWD looks better there.  It's traction elsewhere that's the big concern.

I back my jetski into the water with a Kia Rondo.  People always stare because they assume I will get stuck.  So far, I have not had a problem, which is surprising because the weight transfer on that thing is TERRIBLE.

Did I mention he said he paid $300 for the Eldo?  A true GRM'r .  Compare that to the cost of the many pickup trucks used to tow boats.  He did not have any problems launching his boat.

Always had a weird thing for a fwd big block. I just missed out on a '73 Eldorado about two years ago. Maybe that was a good thing? From a mechanical point of view how difficult are these transmissions to pull if needed? I assume finding a rebuild kit for them may involve alot of effort?

Having spent a LOT of time around boat ramps growing up, back in the 70s and early 80s is was rare to see a pickup used to put a boat in and out of the water. Usually it was a land barge or a wagon as they were heavier. I also got to witness more than one slide back into the water when the owner got enthusiastic with the throttle.

Parts are available, as GM made the basic design for over 10 years.  The trans is huge, and massively heavy, so they aren't easy to pull without the right equipment.   Come to think of it, the entire car is huge and massively heavy.  My 71 Eldo was longer than a Suburban.   Yes, I'd pull up to big cars to see who was longer.  The only larger vehicle I found was a mid-70's Chrysler Newport, or some other 4-door land barge.....it was longer than the Eldo by a foot or so.   Gianormous dinosaurs.......gotta love em!
