at least I think that's what it is.
I'm no fan of mopar, in general. In fact, I've been accused of being the opposite. But at the auction today one of the last cars through was a '98 Neon. All I noticed was the body was super nice and it had two exhaust tips (i know enough that it indicates twin-cam). Well, bidding almost hit $1,000, but when it was over I had my first Neon. So I get back to the lot with it, and start reading wikipedia. Hmmmmm, foglight holes with no foglights. No molding on the doors. I think this might be an ACR. Score! What a great first Dodge.
That's my story.
That would be awesome! Sedan or coupe?
More details to help identify it are here.
The telling thing will be the Koni adjustable struts. Other than that, and the shorter overdrive ratio, you can ACR just about anything.
They are fun and cheap.
at this point it may or may not have Koni struts... and if it does they either need serviced or have been

Yep! I took my door moldings off and had foglight holes and I had just a base sedan. You'd never know it was/wasn't an ACR just by looking at it.
All DOHC have dual tipped mufflers from the factory, all SOHC cars had single tipped mufflers. The muffler from DOHC cars flows a bit better.
DOHC ACRs (coupes) had the dual tip exhaust. SOHC ACRs (sedans) did not. At least not from the factory.
Well done. I'd love to have a sub-grand ACR beater.
It can always be a modded body. I always liked the fake tip on Cobalt's rear bumper.
Do a quick VIN check online. It'll give you the model.
Does it have body-color door handles? If yes, it's an ACR. If not, it's a Sport with missing foglights... at least for '98 and '99.
Incidentally (and for reasons known only to Chrysler) that's exactly the opposite of the way it originally was. Somewhere in the middle of the '97 m/y run, they switched.
Been a while, but I was steward/author of this for about 5 years: http://www.neons.org/faq/faq/FAQ_M.html#ACR
Sorry, i'm talking about the actual dual exhaust. Looking back, it's not clear to me which he said he had. Either the single dual tipped muffler, or that silly dual-exhaust looking thing.
Though maybe the dual exhaust wasn't a factory thing? I've seen enough of them that i thought it was factory...
No, duals like that were never factory on a first-gen car. They only came out the right side of the car, with either 1 or 2 dump pipes depending on how many cams.
That looks like maybe a Vibrant piece. The wide-space duals like that didn't appear until the second gen.
I am selling a flowmaster 1 in 2 out set up for a first gen neon right now. It is a camaro style set up. Message me for pics or info.
