Hell, my last E21 had only the drivers seat in it for the majority of my ownership. I figured the extra seats were just useless extra weight I was dragging around. Currently I'm motorcycle only. If we go anywhere together we take the wife's car, which has four doors...and sucks. She really wants a Challenger.

Thinking back, I don't believe my parents ever owned a four door car while I was growing up. Well, dad bought a 64 Buick Electra 225 but that was not at all a daily driver. Dad always had a pickup truck or full size van for pulling the boat and Mom had an 81 Regal and then a 84 Riviera. Of course, we didn't have to worry about car seats back then either.

$30k in honest to goodness Canadian loonies is a steal for that car. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that anyone who thinks these cars are slow or mediocre has not driven them. They aren't McLaren P1 challengers, but I've seen at least one road test that clocked them high 4's 0-60 and 13 flat in the 1/4. The clutch slave issues are relatively easily fixed. And IMHO they are dead sexy. Hopefully this also deflates the used market for these.

There's a weird interweb hate on for these things and I just don't get it.

Not a weird interweb hate, they just aren't particularly fun or engaging to drive IMHO.

We have had a 350z for 5 years now. I purchased it used and absolutely loved it for about 3 weeks. After 6 months I was ready to get rid of it. SWMBO drove it for a couple of days and has kept driving it for the last 4.5 years. She loves the look and interior. She also only uses half of the gears (takes off in first, shifts to 2nd or 3rd, then 4th or 5th, then 6th on the highway) and generally doesn't rev it over 3k.

They are pretty quick, sound great when you get on it, look awesome, handle well, are relatively comfortable, and get decent highway mpg. The cross-brace thing under the hatch makes it far less practical than it could be and the short wheel base makes it a less desirable touring/GT car. But, there is no fun in the mix when driving on the street. It just feels boring when you drive it because it has very high capabilities that you can't approach without risking "do not pass go, do not collect $200". I'm sure these are perfect attributes for a precision auto-x or track machine, but for a fun street car it needs more power so you can act like a hooligan. My 4.6L SN-95 was more fun as a street car even though it was far less refined.

I purchased "the answer" after SWMBO took over the 350z and now have an FR-S. To me, both are more enjoyable cars to own and use for DD duty than the 350z. Now that being said, I'd be all over a LSx conversion in the 350z when SWMBO is done with it...

Hmmmm. Maybe I'm inferring too much from my G35 ownership. I feel like the G35 coupe is a great GT type car. Maybe the extra weight and longer wheelbase actually IMPROVE the car somehow?

Agreed on the LSx swap though. If my VQ35 ever dies, I may look into that.

I haven't driven a G35 coupe (only the sedan), but I would guess that the combination of a bit more weight, longer wheelbase, and spiffier interior probably improve the touring experience. The G35 sedan is definitely a nicer place to eat up miles than the 350z.

It's funny... I'm the opposite. I like the B-pillar next to my head because I think of it as a pseudo roll bar. I've got no engineering data to back that up but it makes me feel better

More connections to the roof can't hurt, right?

Very long in the tooth car with very average performance capabilities.

We are truly living in a golden age when an 'average' performance is 0-60 in 4 seconds and change.

Obviously this is nothing compared to the guy who has owned BOTH but i've at least driven both and i dont consider the brz/frs to be more of a performance vehicle than the 370z. As delivered, it's several notches DOWN from a 370z in overall capability. It's marginally better in a couple of areas and MUCH worse in others. There's a reason the frsbrz is cheaper!

I think it's funny that people dump on the 370z so much around here. It performs about the same if not a little better than base c5 vette did, but i kind of doubt that if i told you that c5s used to sell for 30k new, that people would go into fits saying it was a raging rip off. Also, i've driven base c5s too and i think the 370z is more fun.

Maybe nobody has really driven 370z's and it's become this sort of self-reinforcing echo chamber where people think that since they are all right by default, that the true reason that they never went and drove a 370z is because they intrinsically sensed that it must suck and now noone should go drive one because everyone already knows it's boring and stupid! Duh!
