Anyways, back on topic, if I was in Canada with that budget, I would probably go for a S15 Silvia (ultimate evolution of the RWD SR20 with a 6-speed) or a Skyline GTS-T of some kind. The GT-R is crazy and all, but it seems like the RWD GTS-T would be a lot cheaper to buy and maintain, and probably more fun to drive.
Yeah, "jap" is offensive. This was the common American sentiment during WWII: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEK45-_5y0s
For $15,000, I think I'd be buying the nicest TT FD I can find and saving money for rebuilds. It's such a nice looking car that I wouldn't be thinking about anything else at that price point, and I love the sound of a turbo rotary.
There's a reason that Nissan used the Datsun name in the US for several years.
If my Grandpa were still alive, I'm sure he would love to tell everyone about it.
Needless to say, I'm not him and yes "Jap" is still offensive.

I've seen FDs for $15k..... I've seen E36 M3TY FDs for $15k. I've been this route....
Lets look at each company....
MK4 Supra - can probably find a decent non-turbo for $15k.
300zx - can find a mint twin turbo possibly with lots of money to spare. PITA to work on.
FD RX7 - any at this price I would skip. If you bought this you would need a bunch of money to fix whats wrong and inevitable failures that plague this car.
3000gt - complete garbage, skip it.
NSX - no way are you finding one for this price unless it's a salvage title or something.
If it doesn't have to be 90s I sold my 350Z for $12k and bought it for $16k in 2007, it was an 03. Only one of the above I have not owned is a NSX and never had a real turbo supra, mine was a turbo swap. When I say a 3000GT is garbage avoid it at all costs it isn't in the same league as any of the other cars. A 300zx has the lowest buy in by far and has equal fun factor to a Supra so IDK why they are so cheap. They suck to work on at times but that would be what I would pick at your price range of those above.
What I would do? Wait until May and spend that $15k to import a mint GTS-T Skyline or possibly a GTR. That is the start of their production date. Try to find, I think it is called, a type m? if you go GTS-T. They come with bigger brakes and various other performance options. The RB20 is a good engine.
For the FD I would wait for JDM imports to become legal and the prices to go crashing or have enough money for a $20-$30k example.
You live in Ontario. Make all of our American dreams come true and buy the GT-R.

I changed it to "Japanese." I wanted to use "Nipponese" and sound all Bruce Sterling/William Gibson/Neal Stephenson, but decided that I'm not cool enough to pull that off.

Thanks.
Back on topic, I'm not sure I want a the car, most of the ones I've seen here are owned by drifter kids and are pretty beat. They are also a pain in the ass to insure and shifting from 2nd to 3rd is not as fun as a lhd.
There are lots of great ideas in this thread.
Mitsubishi Delica. Well that is what I would buy anyway.
LSX-swapped FD or R32 GTR
And I thought "Jap" was like "Brit" or "Aussie" too...learned something today.
You want an E46 M3 . . .
On the Japanese topic -- I'd say FD if you can find one. They aren't getting any uglier.

They are legal here, as long as you want an R33. Those actually DID get federalized.

Ok, i totally agree that a 3000gt is not desirable enough to make it into this conversation as a contender, but i disagree that it's "complete garbage". In what terms? Unless your answer has something to do with transverse fwd based AWD being complete garbage, or maybe something about the glues on certain interior pieces being complete garbage, i dont really think it's a defensible statement compared to cars in general. You can say 'its not exclusive enough to belong here', but i dont think you can honestly say it's garbage. Its just not most enthusiasts' cup of tea.

I was thinking that as well. I know R32's exist up there, and seem to be relatively cheap. Can't go wrong with Godzilla... though I think I'd still rather have the AllTrac just for WTF's sake. People know what a Skyline is. Hardly anyone knows what an ST205 GT4 AllTrac is, comparitvely speaking.
Do you want to be different, or do you want to be awesome?
The GTR is awesome (and still different, as they are expensive, there are more GT4's running around here than GTR's). On top of that, the GT4 (besides the CS edition) looks like a Celica = a girls car. And in almost every category, a GTR will whup a GT4, and the Celica takes a ton of work to get it to do... anything.
It was a good car when it's competition was Talons and Legacy Turbos, but not so much anymore... in fact, I'd MUCH rather own a mint Legacy Turbo than a GTR.
I'm guessing that you don't have much experience with the ST-chassis cars.
I'm not going to debate that it's easier to go ludicrous speed in a Skyline.
But i will take exception to the statement that the GT4 "Takes a ton of work to get it to do.... anything." As the statement is completely incorrect.
300awhp can be done in a day for peanuts. Easily. It's a turbo away from 350whp+ on stock electronics and stock fuel system. The brakes are epic.
Are they god's gift to man in the handling department in stock form? No. Neither is the GTR from what people on here from overseas who have driven them say.
Looks girly?
Sure. If you say so...
Anyways... since you're in Canada, a TT MKiv Supra should be within reach.
I can't honestly say with a clear conscience that i'd choose an ST205 Celica GT4 over that in a heartbeat.
Of course.... this just popped up in Reader's Rides.
This is quite possibly the nicest looking Skyline i've ever seen. I love this front end variant. (GTS-T.)

Meh, to each their own. Up here, where I've gotten to drive them, see a ton of them, and just in general think about them with one in front of me, they aren't what I'd be buying. All you are describing is a glorified Talon at best. I think you need to take the fanboi out of your eyes. At the time, the GTR WAS quite the handling car. Plus, you can actually stick tires on it wide enough that are good for something. They are different leagues of car.
As for looks girly, yea, it does, besides the CS edition. Congrats on posting a picture to a cosmetically modified one (that looks ugly IMO, but I digress).
There is a reason not a single one rallies in Canada, and we have LOTS of them (as another sidepoint).

LOL.
I'm not entirely sure what an ST205 CS Edition is. That was an ST185 thing.
If you're referring to the WRC, they look exactly the same other than the wing risers that were optional on "normal" ST205s in the first place.
The black car i posted has... wheels, factory OEM sideskirts, and maybe a lip. (Though the factory option front side corner lip thingies look better.)
Fanboi-ism aside, if you're going to pan a car (And that's fine, i've since changed by vote back to Supra anyways ), you're more likely to be taken seriously if you're accurate in your statements.

And you're more likely to be taken seriously if you stop acting like such a fanboi. Obviously, I don't know everything about the cars (the proof is in exactly what you said). ALL which are things that don't matter in the end to this discussion. I mean, we can go back and forth all day. My opinion is that they are nothing more than a glorified Talon. Certainly not in the same league as a GTR. You are correct that I was referring to a ST185. But I still say the same thing regardless of which years we talk about.
You can continue to be butthurt about it if you want, it's a free internets.

Yes but I always hear nightmare stories about how they get confiscated and destroyed.
How much does a good R32 GTR sell for in Canada btw? Or a GTS-t? I might just have to buy one as soon as I can. I'd take either.
For less than $15k I'd go with this....

I don't know what you guys have against Jewish American Princesses. My two daughters qualify for the title.
