It's a 1.8 T, automatic and just an appliance through and through.
Call up APR and see what they can do for you tune wise.
VW puts a LOT of exhaust system under their cars. Cut out some of it and enjoy louder note and less weight.
Bigger wheels/less sidewall, will feel "sportier".
I think Hotchkiss is the brand to look up for sway bars and springs.
Electrical tape to cover up the CEL.
Does the Passat share the same front suspension as the golf (or other sporty Audi products rather)?
I just picked up some Audi TT steering knuckles for a song. Hoping to throw them on with some of the associated Audi bushings for a bit of a sportier feel on my GTI.
In reply to TR7:
From what I've read, it seems that my POS Passat shares all its mechanical components with early, front-drive Audi A4s. Even if it is right, which of course the Internet always is, those cars drive pretty lackluster, so I'm not really sure that any parts interchangeability with them help my cause.
Light it on fire.
Trust me, it will be easier that way.
A B5 front suspension shares nothing with the Golf/Jetta. KyAllroad provided a good list.

It shares the front suspension with the B5 S4, which is not particularly lackluster. The lack of the quattro will hurt it, though.
The 1.8T will make a ton of power, once you ditch the teeny weeny "it's just like a turbo, only smaller" KKK K03. ATP sells custom housings to allow you to bolt a Garrett GT2871R on instead, which will flow enough for 350 at the wheels. Of course, you might need a few supporting mods as well... :)
A lot depends on your budget and willingness/ability to fabricate things.
