Yeah...a Matrix/Vibe...
Last pizza guy showed up in a Prius, prob worth more than my nicest car. Should I switch professions?
Gonna +1 the Saturns, can be had for under $2k all day long.

No, most of those people are losing money and just dont know it. Or have 2nd jobs.
I WOULD recommend auto 1g insight if i knew more about the CVT reliability. The rest of the car is ridiculously reliable if you allow for battery work every 150k.

if you can find an insight for 1k show me. i'm buying it!
Yup, Toyota of some sort. I would not recommend any Honda with an automatic gearbox, even the "good" ones are iffy.
I saw an ad for a 1st gen insight auto with "low miles" for $5999 or thereabouts.
If he can stretch his budget that is probably an awesome answer.
I sent him some suggestions, and the insight being a two-seater nixes it. He's got a lady and a domestic life going on. First gen prius looks promising though. There's a good one not far from here.
Fit EV lease
Pretty sure you'd be totally stranded about 1/3 of the way through your pizza delivery shift, and thats not a jab at range ratings, it's just probably a poor match for the usage regime.

Someone should make all the pizza places have quickchargers for EV's, while forcing said pizza places to keep the price of pizza low. Quick! To the Obamaphone!
Drink.

Nice!
He should get a 1-3k for a pizza delivery car. I would suggest a 5th or 6th generation civic or a 3rd or 4th generation jetta diesel.
Well, I drive a 1991 Ford Escort. Great visibility, can do a U-turn in many city streets, lots of interior "swing" space for getting in and out, SUPER gas mileage, cup holders suck!
4 door car will make the back seat easily usable and is quicker than a hatch. 4 door hatch or even a wagon could be a great choice too! Shop harder for the mechanicals and mileage and maintenance over looks.
Buy a car you can learn to maintain!
$5000? I would buy 2 similar cars and use the remaining $2000 for other stuff!
Bruce 380,000 miles at 33mpg delivering pizza!
I was going to suggest Focus but how about an older, N/A Subaru?
Dirt cheap, easy to work on and very reliable. If it's haggard and rusty he may get bonus tips out of pity!

LOL
Someone help me understand... if you were doing a job where you drive for a living, and having a more efficient vehicle means more $ in your pocket, wouldn't you want the absolute most efficient vehicle you could get (Insight/Prius)?
Yes, that is correct, unless you are very bad at math, which apparently a LOT of those people are.
Last time i had a job being paid for mileage, i got $0.55/mile, and i used my 150cc scooter whenever possible (already had it), and put 90% of that mileage pay in my pocket. I've considered getting another delivery job with my 50mpg Insight, too. If i DID have a job getting paid mileage, i'd probably start to seriously think about the mods people do to get these things up to 80mpg..
